Train Crew Discovers Body By Tracks

Sedona AZ (February 17, 2014) – At approximately 4:15 AM this morning, BNSF Railroad officials notified YCSO that a train crew discovered the body of a human male adjacent to railroad tracks west of Seligman, Arizona, in the Peach Springs area. Deputies, along with BNSF law enforcement, arrived at the scene to initiate an investigation into the death. Detectives from YCSO’s Criminal Investigations Bureau were also called and arrived on scene early this morning to assist railroad officials.

Detectives are in the process of verifying the identity of the body and attempting to establish the circumstances leading to the man’s death. Preliminary information indicates the man was killed prior to the discovery by the reporting train crew, and death most likely resulted from contact with a train in the vicinity.

Early this afternoon, the body was recovered and transported to the Yavapai County Medical Examiner for follow-up. Detectives will be working with railroad officials throughout the day on this investigation.

Railroad freight traffic in both directions had been halted during the on scene investigation. As of this afternoon, trains are beginning to move through the area under caution.
