Three Arrested After Paulden Shooting

Hawk Osti, 21, driver of vehicle involved in Paulden AZ shooting incident

Sedona AZ (August 25, 2014) On August 23, 2014, just after 7:30 in the evening, Yavapai County Arizona Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) deputies were dispatched to a shooting near Enid Drive and Bramble Drive, Paulden, Arizona. Witnesses reported seeing a suspect, seated as a passenger in a red Chevrolet Blazer, fire two gunshots towards a moving vehicle it was following. A description of both vehicles was immediately provided to YCSO deputies.

Witnesses also recognized the driver of the suspect vehicle as “Hawk” Osti, a 21-year-old from Paulden, Arizona.

While investigating the shooting scene, the YCSO deputy noticed the Chevrolet Blazer turn from Aspen Street onto Enid Drive and approach his location. The Blazer drove past the deputy, made a left on Bramble Drive, followed by a right turn onto south State Highway 89. While requesting assistance before attempting a traffic stop, the deputy began following the Blazer.

At Rolling Hills Road on Highway 89, the deputy was joined by a Chino Valley (AZ) Police unit. When the deputy activated emergency lights and siren, the driver of the Blazer refused to stop and began accelerating. The Blazer passed at least seven vehicles on the left, while reaching speeds of 100 miles per hour as it continued south on Highway 89.

The Blazer eventually turned west on State Road 4 North, continuing its high speed travel. At Reed Road, officers could detect the odor of marijuana coming from the Blazer. The vehicle continued to Yuma Drive, drove north, and entered a neighborhood off of Pheasant Place. The driver finally stopped the vehicle, near a cliff on a dead end road, in Chino Valley.

Deputies arrested three suspects from the vehicle without incident.

The driver was confirmed as Hawk Osti. The front seat passenger was identified as Edgar Llanes, 20, from Prescott Valley, and the rear seat passenger was identified as Julio Gonzalez, 19, address unknown.

A firearm was recovered from the Blazer which had been stolen from a Prescott Valley location.

As of press time, there is no indication that the bullets fired from the vehicle struck any nearby objects and or persons.

Gonzalez later admitted firing the weapon and claimed he was target shooting road signs. The investigation continues as to the shooting incident, its purpose, and any potential victims.

Due to possible gang affiliations involving these suspects, detectives from the GITEM (Gang and Immigration Intelligence Team Enforcement Mission) task force arrived to follow-up on the shooting.

Gonzalez was booked into the Camp Verde Detention Center on charges including Misconduct Involving Weapons, Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm, Discharging Firearm at a Structure, Unlawful Use of Means of Transportation, Unlawful Flight, and Endangerment. He remains in-custody on a $10,000 bond.

Llanes was booked into the Camp Verde Detention Center on charges including Unlawful Flight, Unlawful Use of Means of Transportation, Misconduct Involving Weapons, and Endangerment. Llanes remains in-custody on a $7,000 bond.

Osti was also booked into the Camp Verde Detention Center. His charges include Unlawful Flight, Misconduct Involving Weapons, Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm, Discharging a Firearm at a Structure, Unlawful Use of Means of Transportation, Open Alcohol Container in Vehicle, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Endangerment. Osti remains in-custody on a $12,000 bond.
