Sedona AZ (May 15, 2014) – The following is a letter to the SedonaEye.com editor:
Dear Governor Brewer and Mr. Halikowski (Director ADOT),
With Memorial Day around the corner, we should all make sure to notice the trash on our nations Purple Heart Trail (I-40), Arizona Veterans Highway (I-17) and the Pearl Harbor Highway (I-10).
What if ADOT and the Governor’s office promoted four equally spaced litter clean-ups per year by mobilizing its citizens and Adopt-A-Highway participants? What if Mayors and City Managers were champions of this same effort?
These clean up dates could be the third weekend of February, May, August and November and would require a total of 10 hours per year by each participant.
Is the current condition of our highways honoring our fallen soldiers locally and nationally? Does the trash on our highways appeal to new residents and businesses in any city, town or state? What does this trash say about our American and Arizona pride?
Will the leaders of Arizona take on this task? This effort would be a cost effective economic development action plan that has many benefits.
Support volunteer efforts! Support the local and nationwide Folksville USA anti-litter programs!
