Synthetic Marijuana Alert

Sedona AZ (December 16, 2010) – Spice also called K2 are street names for synthetic marijuana. Synthetic marijuana is made by spraying a plant product with a chemical synthetic of THC – the psychoactive chemical in marijuana. It is sold as incense and marked “not for human consumption.”

Synthetic marijuana causes hallucinations and delusions; blurry vision; elevated blood pressure; rapid heartbeat; nausea, vomiting; and seizures, and loss of consciousness. After an increasing number of reports from poison centers, hospitals, and law enforcement, the Drug Enforcement Agency moved to ban five synthetic marijuana chemicals. The ban will take effect before December 24, 2010.

K2 is sold as incense under brand names such as Spice, Genie, Blaze and Zohia

Missouri became the eighth state in the country to ban the marijuana substitute. Arkansas Govenor Mike Beebe signed an emergency order banning K2 earlier this month, and similar legislation is pending in New York, New Jersey, Illinois, Louisiana, Michigan and Ohio.

Your state Senator or Representative may be contacted at 800-352-8404. Synthetic marijuana is not illegal in Arizona.
