Support Sedona School Students

Dear Arizona Taxpayer and Friend of Verde Valley School,

I  hope this letter finds you enjoying the run up to the holiday season. On campus, students are gearing up for mid-terms, semester grades and a well-earned Winter Break.

As a graduate or friend of Verde Valley School you know the value of an independent school education.

One way independent schools stay independent in their finances and governance is through the generosity of alumni, parents and friends. Giving that little bit extra at the holidays can sometimes be tough, the State of Arizona offers the state tax credit program for school tuition organizations to make it a little bit easier.

VVS is a member of FAIS – Financial Assistance for Independent Schools. Arizona taxpayers may take a personal income tax credit for donations to FAIS. The cap on credits is $500 for individual donors and $1,000 for married persons filing jointly.

Financial Assistance for Independent Schools (FAIS) is a “School Tuition Organization” as defined in A.R.S. Section 43-1089.  All funds will be used solely for private school tuition assistance. FAIS seeks and accepts applications for tuition assistance without discrimination against any person due to race, color, religion, national origin, disability, or gender.

Contributors receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit against the taxpayer’s Arizona state income tax and FAIS receives funds for school programs. In the independent spirit of VVS, FAIS gives you control of your tax dollars.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Give $500 to FAIS by December 31, 2011.
  2. Complete AZ Tax Form 323, identifying your donation to Financial Assistance for Independent Schools
  3. Receive a $500 credit on your Arizona State Income Tax.

I would argue that the best reason to participate is the ten Arizona residents currently attending VVS on scholarships given to them from money earmarked for VVS through 2010 FAIS contributions. These students are building the special memories that come with time spent in these Red Rocks.

Please join me by supporting Arizona students and Verde Valley School through this generous program.

Sincerely,

Graham D. Frey
