Prescott AZ (December 31, 2012) – Denny Foulk, Yavapai County Emergency Management Coordinator, provided the following update today regarding the landside on Arizona’s Senator Highway:
“Yavapai County Public Works will be evaluating existing hazards which remain on the Senator Highway landslide site. In the interest of public safety, Senator Highway will be closed until the location is evaluated for safety. It is highly recommended due to the icy narrow road conditions that motorists avoid the area and use alternate routes.”
Although much of the slide has been cleared, Yavapai County Public Works officials are concerned about a section of the rock face that appears to be separating from the hillside.
Senator Highway runs south from Prescott, Arizona through the community of Groom Creek to Crown King. The closure is located about three miles south of the section where the road turns to dirt, between mile markers 10 and 11. Residents who live along Senator Highway south of the landslide can use Walker Road to drive north.
Motorists are asked to avoid this area until the all clear has been issued. Yavapai County Public Works and YCSO appreciate the public’s understanding and cooperation.
Citizens may contact the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office with information or questions at 928-771-3260 or www.ycsoaz.gov.

Parts are the old Black Canyon hwy. take a left at the stop sign & you go thru Minniehaha Flats & Wagner coming out at The Tufa tavern above people’s valley (sent via mobile)
