Sedona Summer Art Camp Accepting Registrations

Kiara at last year's Art For Kids summer art camp. Kiara has been coming to camp for several years and will be back this year.

Sedona AZ (June 20, 2011)-The seventh annual summer art camp to be held at the Sedona Arts Center, Art For Kids is now accepting registration for “Artistic Explorations and Kids Yoga.”  Using fused glass, encaustics, pastels, acrylic paint on canvas, low-fire clay, fiber and natural found objects and more, students will create projects like long-legged animals and people a la Giacometti, ceramics on the wheel, peace shields with leather, crystals, beads, garden art with drift wood, landscapes, portraits and their own original masterpieces.

Daily students will warm up with fun kids yoga to help balance their bodies, minds and souls. Led by certified yoga instructor, Amber Martinez, little yogis will practice fun animal poses, partner poses and relaxation techniques.

“Kids yoga helps wake up sleepy bodies and minds, stimulates the creative energy in the child and is just plain good fun too,” says Zenna MacGregor, Camp Director. “This year’s guest artists include Joan Bourque for drawing, painting, and mural lessons for students to work together on a large mural and make their own mini murals to take home and Cheryl “The Peace-Feather Lady” Heimer for peace shields and garden art, and Joani Wolter for sculpture, to name a few.”

Space is limited to the first fifteen to sign up and full tuition cost is $398 for two weeks, with scholarship assistance available for low-income families. Scholarships are possible due to the support of the City of Sedona, the Sedona Arts Festival, Sedona Art Supply, and the Sedona Arts Center. All supplies are included in cost.

Camp will be held July 18-29, 2011 daily, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. until Noon for two weeks and is open to children who have completed Kindergarten through age 12. “Many of the little artists have been coming for several years in a row and we think they keep returning because they create such beautiful artwork and have so much fun too,” says MacGregor.

The large mural created in camp will be designed by the campers from inception to completion and will be installed for one year on campus at the Sedona Arts Center. On the last day of camp, students will celebrate with an art gallery open to the public to exhibit all of the works created at camp. Students will also perform a short performance of their favorite yoga poses and sing a song or two learned at camp.
