Sedona AZ (January 5, 2013) – In mid-January, the City of Sedona Public Works Department will begin moving equipment and material to its new 0.8 acre City of Sedona Public Works Maintenance Facility at 2070 Contractors Road, Sedona.

Currently, the maintenance facility is located at Posse Grounds Park in west Sedona. Since fall of 2011, neighborhoods adjacent to the west side of the Park expressed concerns regarding the appearance and the noise associated with Public Works’ activities in the area. City staff cleaned up the area and offered to install landscape buffers and a decorative screening wall to mitigate the neighbors’ concerns. However, the neighborhoods did not concur with the continued use of the area for Public Works operations.

In the month of June, 2012, the Sedona City Council included $1,000,000 in the current budget (Fiscal Year 12/13) for the development of a Public Works Department Maintenance Facility. On December 21, 2012, the City purchased the property at 2070 Contractors Road, Sedona for $825,000 including closing costs for this facility located in one of the City’s few industrial areas.

Director of Public Works for the City of Sedona, Charles Mosley, commented that, “The Contractors Road site is already developed to a level that allows us to move in quickly. It can house most of the Public Works maintenance vehicles and materials needed to maintain storm drains, streets, landscaping and wastewater facilities within the City limits. This facility allows us to centralize by moving some equipment that was housed at the Wastewater Treatment Plant into town where it is used most often.”

Minor remodeling will take place over the next several months to accommodate office space, phones and computers.

The City plans to restore and revegetate the Posse Grounds site over the next year.
