Sedona Apartment Fire Displaces Family

Sedona VOC apartment fire under investigation

SEDONA AZ (June 21, 2012) – On Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at 9:22 pm, Sedona Regional Dispatch Center received a call reporting the smell of smoke at a Sedona Village of Oak Creek apartment complex on East Cortez Drive.

Sedona Fire District emergency crews responded to the scene in less than five minutes and found fire sprinklers had activated in one of the apartments on the ground floor of a six unit complex.

Entering the apartment, fire crews were presented with an activated fire sprinkler system and smoky conditions. The fire was located in a sofa in the living room. Fire crews proceeded to extinguish the balance of the fire and removed the sofa  from the apartment.

The residents of the apartment, a family with two young children, were not home at the time of the fire. Other residents in the multi-unit complex were able to return to their apartments.

“The automatic fire sprinkler system did its job by providing quick notification of the fire to the residents in the adjacent apartments, containing the fire to the living room and preventing the fire from spreading to other apartments in the building,” stated Sedona Fire District Fire Marshal Gary Johnson.

The cause of the 205 East Cortez Drive apartment fire is under investigation. Fire loss is undetermined. Follow SedonaEye.com online news for daily breaking news and updates.
