Scholarships Available for Teen Writers

Sedona AZ (May 18, 2011)The Teen Author Program (TAP) announces twelve scholarships for a June Retreat after an anonymous contributor purchased and donated the scholarships for interested teens to attend author Tom Bird’s Write Your Book in 5 Days retreat in Sedona, June 23-28, 2011.

Each potential scholarship winner is being asked to submit a one page letter on why and how their attendance at the June Write Your Book in 5 Days Retreat will benefit them along with a letter of recommendation from one of his/her teachers, a school administrator or a board of education member.

The writing retreat begins June 23, 2011, and interested students must submit their documents to TomBird@TomBird.com no later than Monday, June 6, 2011. Scholarship winners will be chosen and notified within that week.

“We agreed to give his scholarship idea a test run for my June Retreat,” said Bird. “If all goes well, our anonymous donor will be willing to consider setting up something more permanent.”

The TAP scholarship covers a student’s tuition for the June Retreat, but does not cover overnight lodging, transportation to and from the retreat, or meals. The price of the scholarship is valued at $1495.

“Especially in these challenging economic times, we are proud to be able to positively contribute to the personal and literary futures of teens who want to write,” continued Bird. “To have a completed book under their belt even before they are in college age is quite an accomplishment, one which we hope will open many a literary door for those teens who want to write. I have had teens attend and finish their books at my retreats in the past, and it is always a pleasure to be able to welcome many more into our presence at my June retreat.”

Submissions should have 1) Student’s Name, School, Age, Grade, Student’s and Parent’s Contact Information; 2) a one page letter why their attendance at the June Write Your Book in 5 Days retreat will benefit them; 3) a letter of recommendation from either his/her teacher(s), a school administrator or a Board of Education member.
