Red Rock Road Celebration at Hillside

Sedona AZ celebrates completion of Hwy 179 construction

Sedona AZ–Come and celebrate the Red Rock Road at Hillside Sedona on August 20th through the 22nd. “The day has finally come,” Hillside Sedona’s general manager, Karen Reynolds Dilks said.  “I’ve had my dancing shoes on for years waiting for this day. It’s wonderful that the entire business community came together to let the world know we are unveiling an extraordinary scenic highway,” continued Dilks.

The popular Umbrella Project returns to Hillside on August 20 and will run through August 22nd. Children across America offer over 150 unique hand-painted rainproof umbrellas that will colorfully line the new Highway 179 corridor.   All proceeds will benefit The Albert Schweitzer Hospital In Haiti.

Cat Black Band and Sambatugue will provide live music from 11 am to 6:30 pm with a repertoire that ranges from sounds of Bonnie Raitt to Brazilian percussion. The Cat Black Band returns to Sedona after performing in July at Tlaquepaque.

Sedona International Film Festival proudly presents “Nine”, a vibrant and provocative musical that follows the life of world famous film director Guido Continini as he reaches a creative and personal crisis of epic proportion.  It will air at 8 pm on an outdoor Jumbo-Tron preceded by entertainment from the Sedona Performers Guild.

A street-side food fest offered by Shugrue’s, Javelina Cantina and Boys and Girls Club of Northern Arizona will host a casual fare for those on the run from event to event hosted throughout the town.

A Kids Korner and Balloon Artist sponsored by Indulge and Stone Creations will provide fun for kids of all ages.  The Umbrella Project will have teachers and umbrellas on hand for children to decorate for its next disaster relief effort (the Audubon Society for the Gulf Region).   Hillside Merchants add a barrage of surprises with raffles, food tasting, and artist’s demonstrations.  See www.Celebratetheredrockroad.com for further details.

Sedona Heritage Museum displaying “Then and Now” photos and Sedona Oak-Creek School District will present an art and photo exhibition from local school children. Other participating local non-profits are the Sedona Food Bank (locals bring a can of food or two), The Sedona Humane Society, Hospice Compassus, and Voice of Choice.

The Sedona Times Publishing will be covering the Hillside event with daily news and interest stories and photos; visit sedonaeye.com  now to register for the daily eBlast to receive the latest Red Rock Road celebration information on August 20th through the 22nd.

“This was a road created for Intermodal Transportation.  Let’s use it and celebrate its design. Walk, bike, use transit, car pool with neighbors and friends. Parking is always at a premium,” reminds Dilks.

Hillside is located at 671 SR 179, Sedona. Visit www.hillsidesedona.com or call (928) 282-4500 for more information.
