Rebooting Integral Sedona

rebootSedona AZ (July 4, 2014) – Within a few minutes after calling 911 I was on a stretcher, in a few more minutes at Sedona Medical Center’s ER. Several hours later I was admitted to the Verde Valley Medical Center with acute pancreatitis, a bad gallbladder, and sepsis. In response to all this the heart began to atrial fibrillate and body temperature rose.

Considered for surgery the following morning, Saturday, 15th of June, it was postponed till Monday when the body might better allow for removal of the gallbladder. Monday morning, Dr. Hu Blakes’ surgery team was ready to begin meticulous pre-op process that proceeds the cholecystectomy, but had to wait three hours, the time it took to raise potassium to sufficient levels for the surgery. Two other medicines were given intravenously and a sonogram was taken before the surgery would begin.

I woke from the surgery with the realization I was going to die. There was no uncertainty about this, so calmly I proceeded to make a space for releasing into it. If today or tomorrow, I was ready and willing to let go into the mystery which is death. This was the first time I was facing death, and it felt strangely OK.

reboot 2But death didn’t come for me or decided to grant another beginning. Already there is the sense of direction, a way forward that faces everything blowing your way sincerely and with honesty. Even though there is no separation the movement is toward separation with compassion for oneself and others dancing their dream.

Integral Sedona was caught unprepared for the suddenness of events. Future presentations were in the planning stages, and one of the planners was on vacation. We quickly chose to screen, As It Is In Heaven, a film we later learned was directed in part to reflect the power the Course in Miracles has on the lives of the protagonists. Forty two showed up for the film, some stayed over to enjoy popcorn and Kombucha and discuss the film.

With vacations, and hospitalization, it was decided to declare a three Saturday Holiday.

Integral Sedona is a recognized part of the entire Sedona Community of organizations that support its cultural and civic life. We discuss issues that affect all of us in the light of a more inclusive framework. As Integralists we engage all four quadrants because that is the way each moment arises; with an interior connected to a society and an exterior embedded in a vast sweep of systems and institutions. We live on multiple levels, body, mind, spirit, engaging our shadow elements. Living on multiple levels offers opportunities to bring others into fullness.

The picture with Sandra Day O Conner, United States Supreme Court Justice, is a picture with Integral Sedona, a picture of all of you who over the years have contributed by your presence, time, or teaching capacity to help all of us to live more fully through Integrally informed practice. We want you to know how much we appreciate you and support you in your unique search for truth. By far, not all Integralists meet on Saturday mornings at the Sedona Public Library. They are active in the community in politics, business, health, education, government, spirituality, the arts and sciences. We hope to call on them to contribute their understanding of how the AQAL model offers solutions to the many problems they face.

reboot 3Over the years there are bound to be points of disagreement, differing opinions, and worst of all, hurt and alienation. Now is the time to express regrets and apologies for any harm done on my part, or on the part of Integral Sedona. Now may be the time for expressing forgiveness, and asking for forgiveness, and for coming together and for working together to bring unity and compassion into our lives and into the Integral Vision we hold.

Our next presentation will be given by Jim Gandee. Life just got better knowing Jim will offer his deeply insightful thoughts on the “WE” space. No one that I know knows more about this space than Jim. We will send you more on this outstanding presentation on a little known power house that exists whenever a few people get together to engage creatively.

Integral Sedona is a group that meets Saturdays at the Sedona Public Library from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. to discuss human and evolutionary development. It studies the four quadrants, states of consciousness, stages of growth, lines of development and individual typologies. It supports and promotes integral life practice. The discussions and study are grounded in the Developmental Psychology and Integral Philosophy of Ken Wilber. Meetings are open to anyone interested, and are free.
