On June 17, the Trustees of the Keep Sedona Beautiful Board of Directors accepted the resignation of President Steve DeVol, who resigned for personal reasons, and unanimously elected trustee Tom O’Halleran as President to serve the remaining six months of DeVol’s term.   Steve will continue to serve on the board and support a number of projects.

The KSB Board of Directors, members, volunteers and staff wish to acknowledge the many contributions Steve made in his one and a half years as president.  During his term, Steve worked tirelessly on the National Scenic Area designation, opposition to continuous roadway lighting on SR 89A, the monthly KSB Speakers’ Series, video projects for many KSB events as well as a number of special projects KSB provides to the community.   For his many hours of expertise and service, Keep Sedona Beautiful is extremely grateful.

Before becoming a KSB Trustee, Tom O’Halleran spent eight years in the Arizona State Legislature serving one term as State Senator and six years as a State Representative.  While in the state legislature, he chaired the committees of Natural Resources and Higher Education as well serving as the Chair-Elect of the 15 State Council of State Governments-West where he was also Chair of the Natural Resources Committee.   With an extensive background on water, land and environmental issues, O’Halleran brings important experience to the position of KSB President.

On accepting the position of President, Tom stated, “I’m pleased to serve as President of Keep Sedona Beautiful and to be representing such an outstanding organization.  I look forward to working with the Board of Trustees, members, volunteers and staff to continue KSB’s commitment to Preserving the Wonder™.”
Keep Sedona Beautiful is Sedona area’s first non-profit conservation organization and has been preserving its unique natural environment since 1972.   This volunteer organization has a membership of Sedona friends, neighbors, visitors, and business owners who share an appreciation for Sedona’s natural beauty and small town charm.

KSB’s accomplishments include managing over 100 Litter Lifters who clean up trash along 65 miles of area roads; protecting the area’s star-filled skies through outdoor light pollution monitoring; acquiring land to add to the Coconino National Forest; educating homeowners on native plants and collecting rain water; advocating quiet skies; and bringing authorities to the area to educate the community on pertinent environmental and conservation issues.

The House Committee on Natural Resources allowed Arizona Congresswoman Ann Kirkpatrick, CD1, to move further in the legislative process by passing the Sedona-Red Rock National Scenic Area Act out of that committee. Rep. Kirkpatrick is lobbying fellow House of Representative members that Arizona needs this Act to “strengthen the tourism industry and bring new jobs to the region while conserving the natural beauty of Greater Arizona without a significant investment of federal dollars.” July 21 2010 Washington DC.
