Prescott AZ (April 3, 2013) – Media reports yesterday caused the owner of two reportedly stolen statues to call the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office and advise both were safe and sound.
The owner indicated that eight years ago he sold the property on Heavenwood Lane, Prescott, Arizona, with a purchase agreement to remove the statues at a later date. The original owner told YCSO that his intent, at the time of the property sale, had been to place the Elk and Bear statues on a nearby property. When that planned real estate purchase did not occur, the two statues had remained until just recently when the owner relocated both to his Phoenix home a few days ago, leaving a note for the current property owner on the door.
It was only after speaking to the Heavenwood Lane property owner this morning that the statues’ owner learned his note had not been seen, resulting in a belief that the statues had been stolen.
The statues’ owner told YCSO he intends to return the Elk and Bear to their original location in light of the trouble caused the current homeowner and apologized for any misunderstanding.
The present property owner reported the theft of the two statues on March 23, 2013, and indicated they were last seen on March 10, 2013. Constructed of metal with a copper finish and weighing approximately 200 to 300 pounds, each five to seven feet tall statue is valued in the $2500 to $3000 range.
Deputies did check area scrap yards and searched several internet-based classified sites without success.
There were no known suspects at the time of the reported theft.
