Missing Arizona Woman Update

Kristal Forest Arizona woman still missing

Camp Verde AZ (June 18, 2012) – The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office issued an update to the missing persons cold case file involving a Cottonwood woman, Kristal Forest. Kristal was last seen with Robert Reed (aka: Charles Olson) in Camp Verde, Arizona, on March 28, 2009, at a storage yard. The public is asked to help locate Reed.

Kristal planned on driving her vehicle, her two dogs and all of her possessions to Austin, Texas. Kristal drove a red 1997 Nissan Pathfinder which was towing a small U-Haul trailer. Kristal was scheduled to arrive in Austin, Texas, on April 2, 2009, but she has not been heard from since her time with Robert Reed.

Kristal’s debit account shows her last use transaction was on March 27, 2009. The U-Haul trailer that Kristal rented was turned in after hours at a storage lot in Las Cruces, New Mexico; video surveillance captured an unknown pick-up truck dropping off the trailer.

It is not known where Kristal’s furniture and other property may have been taken. Kristal’s two dogs are also missing.

At the time of Forest and Reed’s chance encounter, Robert Reed was living under the alias name of Charles Olson since Reed was on the run from a felony arrest warrant. Reed had little to no money, and apparently stayed in several camp areas in the Verde Valley.

Reed referred to himself as “Chef” and often talked about cooking. He had a good supply of camping gear and used a distinctive white colored “teepee” tent.

Reed had a yellow colored cat named Butterball. Reed frequented the Old Town Mission, Catholic Social Services, DES and Riverfront Park.

Reed would gain people’s sympathy by telling stories of being mugged and losing his family in a terrorist attack.

Visit the Yavapai County Sheriff’s website at www.ycsoaz.gov for additional photographs of missing Kristal Forest and suspect, Reed, including those of her car, two dogs and storage facility surveillance video stills.

The Cold Case Unit’s mission is to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves by seeking answers and justice for the victims and their families. The unit was started in 2009 by the then Sheriff Steve Waugh. What began with one volunteer, the unit has since expanded to five volunteers with one detective assigned primarily to cold case investigations.

The volunteers include college students, retired business professionals and retired law enforcement officers who focus on reviewing unsolved homicides, unresolved suspicious deaths, and missing person cases.

In addition to reviewing the case files, volunteers assist in non-confrontational research and interviews, clarifying vague information, communicating with the various private parties and institutions that assist law enforcement with pairing missing victims or suspects with other cases across the country and maintaining social network sites. Cold Case Volunteers maintain the social network sites with the consent and permission of the victim’s family members.
