21 year old Elizabeth Lee Ann Gill arrested for stealing mail

Sedona AZ (July 16, 2013)On July 15, 2013, Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the 3200 block of North Treasure Drive, Prescott Valley, to assist probation officers following the search of a home occupied by 21-year-old Elizabeth Gill.

Probation officers told deputies they had recovered several pieces of U.S. Mail not belonging to Gill, including a check for $300 made out to a person with an address in Mayer. Additionally, several pieces of mail sent from the Arizona motor vehicle department to Mayer residents were found and contained a significant amount of personal information. There were also credit card statements and utility bills located. All these items were found in Gill’s bedroom.

Deputies learned Gill has a newspaper delivery route in Mayer where a majority of the mail was addressed. Gill denied direct knowledge of the mail and checks saying they must have been left by prior occupants of the home. A search of her vehicle, which she used to deliver newspapers, revealed two more checks from another Mayer resident.

Deputies were informed that Gill is on probation for a prior check fraud. Deputies found a route log confirming her delivery work in the neighborhoods where the U. S. mail was stolen. She also worked a route in Spring Valley and Cordes Lakes.

Based on the findings of this investigation, Gill was arrested and booked at the Camp Verde Detention Center on charges including five counts of Burglary (representing 5 different mail theft victims), Identity Theft, Theft, and a Probation Violation.

A YCSO deputy was able to track down two of the mail theft victims in Mayer and they confirmed the checks had been stolen from their mailboxes. In one case, a victim explained he routinely places payment checks in his mailbox for pick-up by mail carrier.

Citizens can contact the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office with information or questions about this case or any other at 928-771-3260.
