Letter to Sedona Fire District Governing Board

Dear Editor,

At the May 28, 2010, meeting of the Sedona Fire District Governing Board, one of the speakers used the term “scare tactics” to describe information being distributed by the Fire Department.  Though perhaps well-meaning, the term is a misnomer.

Having “worst case scenarios” brought to the attention of the Board and the pubic prior to making what could be a life altering decision is imperative.

The facts revealed by each of the speakers and their presentations were astounding and indeed, absolutely terrifying.  The private ambulance service guarantee of a response within 75 minutes of a 911 call is not particularly comforting!  I was appalled to find Mr. Christensen, the Board member responsible for the debate in the first place, conveniently absent from the proceedings.  His insulting lack of professional courtesy speaks loudly of the position, “I’ve already formed my opinion.  Don’t confuse me with the facts.”

Privatizing emergency medical care would be a disaster from which there is no recovery.  It has been proven impossible to change it back once the colossal error has been perpetrated.

If you do this to yourselves, you are fools.  If you do it to the rest of us, you are criminals.

Respectfully submitted,
WENDY V TANZER

The general public in Sedona is casually kept from knowing that the present ambulance service while taking in “1 million” actually takes “3 million” to run. It’s all public information – of course now that Chief Nazih Hazime is there it might cost you hundreds of dollars to obtain copies of internal documents. (this is new policy designed to help keep the sins of the SFD under wraps) How is this huge loss good for Sedona besides providing fat jobs for the tax payers?
