SEDONA AZ–” I’m looking forward to serving the citizens in a new fashion,”Jay Parkison, candidate for Verde Valley Constable said. “I’ve done it for the past 21 years. I believe in seeking out new challenges and this is a good new challenge and public service.” Parkison is currently Head of Eastern Command with the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Department.
“When I do presentations for my candidacy, the first thing I have to do is explain what the Constable is. It is a position established by the Arizona State Constitution to work primarily with the justice system, in this case the Verde Valley Justice Court.”
Candidate for Verde Valley Constable Jay Parkison went on to explain that the office of the Constable executes orders of the Court such as warrants, writs, and subpoenas, and while it is possible for the Constable to be asked to serve criminal warrants, the office generally deals with civil matters. While many may regard the position of Constable as not very glamorous, Parkison points out that it is an important position because every government agency and office is under fiscal pressure and the Constable office needs to be run efficiently and within budget. Having managed a $2.5 million budget within the Sheriff’s Department gives Parkison the required experience, he believes.
The duties of the Constable must be handled in a timely fashion and as Parkison explained, “All orders must be executed with very specific deadlines and procedures and if they aren’t followed deadlines will be missed, and it will just muck the court up.” There are also safety issues both for the server and the public that Parkison believes his law enforcement experience will be helpful when coping with difficult or volatile situations.
“My ultimate goal,” Parkison said, “is to continue to serve the citizens of the Verde Valley with prompt and courteous service, integrity and fiscal responsibility.”
