Flagstaff Area I-40 Crash Kills Four

AZ I-40 logoSedona AZ (August 7, 2014) Arizona Interstate 40 is closed in both directions after a head-on crash claimed the lives of four people this morning.

An east bound car crossed the median and struck a west bound vehicle head-on at approximately 11:30 a.m., advised the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Flagstaff Medical Center received three of the victims.

The interstate is expected to remain closed into the afternoon and travelers in both directions are advised to delay travel through the area. The area of the crash is approximately twenty five miles east of Flagstaff.

  1. AZ DPS Update:

    East bound AZ I-40 lanes reopened at approximately 12:30 PM. West bound lanes will remain closed until further notice. Expect traffic delays through the area and avoid the area if possible.

  2. The Arizona Department of Transportation announced the reopening of all lanes in both east and west directions just before 2:00 p.m. The westbound closure resulted in a 10-mile backup approaching milepost 218.

    No names have yet been released and no other information was available.
