Sedona AZ (October 23, 2013) – Outer Loop Road between Reed Road and Williamson Valley Road, Prescott, Arizona, is closed indefinitely this morning.

At about 7:50 this morning, YCSO deputies were dispatched to a traffic accident on Outer Loop Road near milepost 2.5. Two sedan type vehicles were involved in an apparent head on collision.

A silver colored vehicle held only a driver while a turquoise colored vehicle held a driver and three passengers. Of the four people in the turquoise colored car, two were pronounced dead on scene while its driver and a passenger were airlifted to Flagstaff Medical Center.

A vehicle passenger was transported by ambulance to Yavapai Regional Medical Center. Preliminary reports indicate all three survivors are in serious condition.

No identities will be released pending notification to respective family members.

  1. October 23, 2013 – INVOLVED PARTIES IDENTIFED – ADDITIONAL DEATH REPORTED –

    The four occupants travelling together in the turquoise vehicle, a 2005 Chevrolet Aveo, are identified as Julianna Hersh, 23, Joseph Hersh, 15, Jeremiah Hersh, 13 and Jess Hersh, 9 years of age. Julianna and Jess (a young girl) were pronounced deceased at the scene. Jeremiah was transported to a hospital in Phoenix and has died. Joseph was airlifted to Flagstaff Medical Center and is expected to survive.

    The Hersh family is from Chino Valley, AZ.

    The solo driver in the silver 2007 Subaru is identified as 63-year-old Elaine Anderson of Prescott, AZ. She was flown to Flagstaff Medical Center and is expected to survive.

    Outer Loop Road was re-opened earlier this afternoon. The cause of this tragic accident remains under active investigation with YCSO accident reconstruction specialists. Details will be updated when provided to the media office.

  3. This sounds like a family of children. Please God have mercy on their family. May the one brother regain his health and let them all get the psychological counseling they will need to live through this tragedy. God have mercy on us all. Amen.

    God is on the throne and loves us unconditionally, but He’s not responsible for our mistakes or bad decisions. Isn’t it convenient to blame Him for everything that goes wrong? We all still have minds and wills and can suffer for our mistakes and bad choices.

    This accident is so very, very sad and difficult to understand, but let’s put these families in God’s loving care and pray for them every day—and not blame the Creator of the Universe when we don’t understand something like this.
