Eye on Sedona City Finance

Sedona AZ (June 13, 2011)–The City of Sedona Financial Services Department is continually looking for better ways to serve the citizens of Sedona, Arizona.

In the month of July 2011, the City of Sedona Finance Department will introduce a more efficient routing system for phone calls. A dedicated phone line for sewer customers will be available to make payments at any time of day, with a live operator available from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and after business hours, an automated system. The sewer payment service will be offered at no cost to City of Sedona citizens.

With the new dedicated phone lines, the City of Sedona Finance Department will offer one dedicated line for taxpayers calling for assistance. Phone calls will be sent directly to Revenue Discovery Systems (RDS), where taxpayers can receive support regarding city sales tax remittance questions, also at no cost.  A live operator will be available to answer Sedona tax questions from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on city business days.

In recent months, the Sedona Finance department received requests for quarterly and annual billing for its sewer services now billed monthly. In the July 2011 sewer billing, customers will receive a survey about wastewater billing options with their monthly statement. The Finance Department would like to receive feedback about whether customers are interested in receiving monthly, quarterly, or annual sewer billing.  The survey will also be available on the City of Sedona’s Finance Department web page.

The City of Sedona is in the process of changing its policies regarding residential rental properties and wastewater accounts. The City strongly encourages all wastewater accounts to remain in the property owner’s name. Due to an increase in tenant non-payment of sewer charges, the City will be establishing a Deposit and Credit Bureau policy, which Sedona residential tenants must adhere to before establishing an account with the City. The Sedona property owner and tenant will be required to sign an agreement and pay a deposit prior to account name changes. These changes are anticipated to be effective January 1, 2012.

While wastewater billing and taxpayer assistance are the primary customer service functions of the Financial Services Department, the City of Sedona also maintains a business license database. The database contains vital information related to businesses with tax liabilities to the City of Sedona. A modified version of the Sedona business license database is available to citizens online. Please visit the Financial Services web page at www.SedonaAZ.gov to view this database.

Businesses that do not have a tax liability to the City of Sedona are not required to hold a City of Sedona Business License at this time.

Excellent customer service is a top priority for the City of Sedona Financial Services Department. From May 2011 through September 2011, City of Sedona offices are open Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and closed on Fridays.

In October 2011, the Sedona City Hall office hours will return to an 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m, Monday through Friday, schedule.
