Driver Arrested After Truck Towing Hay Overturns

Truck hauling hay trailers rolls over near Prescott

Sedona AZ (October 12, 2016) – On October 11, 2016, at approximately 6:45 in the morning, Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a truck rollover crash on Iron Springs Road, Prescott, Arizona. The driver of the truck, Tommy Baysinger, 60, from Arizona, had been injured and was transported to Yavapai Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The preliminary investigation indicated Baysinger was driving too fast for the existing roadway, crossed over the centerline, and rolled the truck which eventually came to rest on the driver’s side of the cab. The double trailer load of hay spun 180 degrees and also flipped. Crash investigators located methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia when it fell out of the driver’s door as the cab was righted. Deputies found a small butane torch in the cab commonly used to aid in the smoking of methamphetamine with a glass pipe.

A YCSO supervisor with Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) certification contacted Baysinger at the hospital and completed a DRE investigation. The results indicated Baysinger was impaired by methamphetamine influence. After Baysinger was released from the hospital, he was booked at the Camp Verde Detention Center on charges including Possess/Use Dangerous Drugs, Possess/Use Drug paraphernalia and DUI Drugs. He remains in-custody as of this morning. Bond has not been set.

It is extremely fortunate that no other vehicles or pedestrians were in the pathway of this driver when the incident occurred.
