Dear Editor: Sedona Changes?

My friends and I arrived for two nights from the Phoenix airport (on our way to Vegas for three days) and found that our favorite health food restaurant is closed. We did eat at the health food grocery store which had a food counter that was adequate in a pinch (we refuse to eat at fast food chains). Crystal Palace Gift Shop was closed (a shocker since it seemed to have been open for years and years), and we are sadly reminded of the economy with empty storefronts and closed restaurants along the highway (it’s everywhere), but the night lights in town along the creek road near Exposures and Kings Ransom screamed big city so we changed our mind about staying there and drove up to West Sedona so we can sit on our patio or in our room with its view, enjoy our wine and chat the night away with the stars! (bit cloudy and cold tonight but beautiful to behold) Our hike experience was wonderful in the enchantment area today and if the weather holds, we plan on hiking again tomorrow near Bell Rock, but please don’t ruin the night sky with lots of lights. The town’s not that big that we can keep moving to the dark sides (no double entendre intended Sedonans). We enjoyed aura photos and a turqoise ring for Ginny and revisited all the lovely Sedona tranquil spots like the canyon and red rock loop road. Tomorrow we are visiting a local spa after a morning hike. It was nice to walk around the mexican village (none of us can spell the name of it) but the upper end of Sedona before the canyon road north is too touristy for us, so we didn’t stop this time (did the pink jeep tour last visit and still talk about it). While in the Coffeepot Restaurant for breakfast, a nice fellow from Minnesota who moved to Sedona last year (lucky lucky man) told us to check out the Sedona Times, and in trying to locate where it is sold, found this site online. Please tell us how to subscribe to your newspaper at the address below. We’ll keep up with Sedona and all the surrounding communities goings-on even from back home! We’d like to recommend the Coffeepot Restaurant to those living in Sedona and to any new visitors. Our meal was quite good and the service very efficient and they kept our coffee cups full. Pauline Rose, Raleigh NC and friends from Raleigh and Durham, Peggy Hitchens and Virginia-Greta Chappell and Jo Pennuel

    Pauline Rose,

Reading your comments brought back memories. I have been coming to Sedona for 18 years and when we finally moved here seven years ago, our journey was over. There is something to do for everyone and we are surrounded by boundless natural beauty. Some of us, after moving here, start taking it all for granted and your comments re-awakened the reasons why we moved here. Thank you for helping us re-focus and see what we are blessed with in this enchanting area.

And you are also right about the Coffee Pot Restaurant,,,have been going there since they opened almost 20 years ago and they excell consistantly in good food and oustanding service…one of the reasons why several years ago they were featured on the Food Channel as one of the best restaurants in AZ.

    Thank you for sharing!

That’s why we chose to retire to Sedona’s Village, Carolina girls. Next time you come to Sedona, stay in the Village of Oak Creek on Highway 179 where the lights hit the road and not the sky. We recommend Desert Flour for coffee and pastry and the Thai restaurant for dinner. Many Sedonans drive to Red Chopsticks for dinner also. Desert Quail & Wildflower offer inexpensive and clean rooms but there’s always the chain Hilton or B&B’s. My wife likes the new coffee shop Posse Grounds after seeing it advertised on this site, but I don’t like change so Desert Flour is fine. The restaurant Cuchina Rustica is the place to go for a really memorable dinner. Just seeing that restaurant lit up in the evening is nice. The Village is walkable so park your rental, stow the keys under our dark starry sky Sedona address.

Sign me as formerly from the gray and cold winters,
Dave in the land of four season sunshine
