Dear Editor: Litter Recovery Challenge

Gary Chamberlain on west to east cross country bike trip 2010

Folksville USA is a virtual town of real riders! As a former 1990 Triathlon Today “All American” I know about workouts and that sound that goes “Pssssssssss” is either something natural or unnatural that has just invaded my bike tire, and interrupted my workout. You see, I am now one of many “Old Dogs” who still ride 100-200 miles per week. On a rest day, you will find me heading out to help clean up our Arizona highways and byways.

In July of 2009, I found a $100 bill and our group has recovered new sunglasses, other currency, a $1000 savings bond, a pistol, a stolen safe and a bunch of tools. I live near Sedona and in the past two years, we have collected 1160 bags of “Pssssssss” items.

I hope that you will join me as I leap on my Moots YBB with Ritchey Design and Scram drive train component and my “Bob” trailer to gather up someone else’s TRASH from our highways. It is a relaxing recovery workout.

Just imagine if all cyclists, dual-athletes and triathletes used their off day to eliminate the “Psssssssssss”?
