Cottonwood Parking Lot Melee Involves Runaway

yavapai county sheriff's office logoSedona AZ (September 22, 2015) – On September 13, 2015, Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office deputies were conducting a follow-up investigation on an underage female runaway from the Cottonwood area. YCSO deputies met with Cottonwood Police officers at the local Fry’s store where the officers had detained two females, one the 16-year-old reported runaway. Both females became disruptive and the runaway began resisting her detention.

While attempting to handcuff the runaway, an initially uninvolved teenage female, 14, came running towards YCSO deputies with a large rock in her hand. Deputies stopped and restrained her, then placed her under arrest after she kicked a deputy.

During the 14-year-old teen’s arrest, a male juvenile (age not currently available) standing nearby threw a rock at a YCSO deputy striking him on the shoulder. The male then ran, but was caught by Cottonwood Police officers after a brief chase.

While the investigation continued in the Fry’s parking lot, the reported runaway and combative female were placed in separate Sheriff’s vehicles. Both were observed kicking the inside of the respective vehicles, removing seat belts, and attempting to slip out of handcuffs. Each was restrained to avoid further escape.

A total of four juveniles were arrested and booked at the Prescott Juvenile Detention Center on charges including Resisting Arrest, and Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer (for 2 of the 4). Cottonwood Police officers placed additional charges on the male juvenile following the assault on a deputy and foot chase.

Deputies are developing information from follow-up interviews regarding ‘crash pads’ in the area that house runaways.

  1. Parents need to be brought in. Who in the hell raises delinquents but delinquent parents? Make the parents and kids do mandatory counseling for a year that includes attending every school function and meeting. Put curfews on the kids and the parents; home by 6 PM. Makes parents and kids take anger management classes. Make the kids find work and produce a paycheck that 50% is held in a savings account until the probation is up. Make the parents and kids do mandatory drug tests. They want to go to jail then put them in there for two or three days with the parents. Some hard lessons are due here for these malcontents. No parents then make them join Big Brothers Big Sisters or a mentoring organization like Scouts or church. Give them something to rebel against instead of people. Kids need boundaries. Kids need ideas not taught by delinquent kids or parents. Read Ben Carson’s life story and get with the program.
