Cornville Road Head on Collision

Sedona AZ (April 13, 2018) – On April 12, 2018, at 4:15 in the afternoon, Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a Cornville Road multiple vehicle collision near mile marker 7, Cornville. Deputies arrived to see a traffic back up and fire personnel on scene treating the injured.

Two of the three vehicles involved were badly damaged. A gray Chevrolet Sonic, driven by Arlene Johnson, 47, from Mesa, Arizona was stopped in the east lane facing south, and a white van with extensive damage was off the roadway. The third vehicle, a blue truck on the north side of the road, exhibited minimal damage.

Witnesses told deputies that the driver of the Chevrolet Sonic hit the white van head-on after crossing the double yellow line into opposing traffic. The van apparently rolled several times before coming to rest. The driver of the blue truck confirmed seeing the Chevrolet Sonic collide head on with the white van and, to avoid the collision, he swerved off the roadway and struck a sign post.

All drivers involved in the accident were wearing seatbelts.

At the hospital, YCSO deputies recovered a gram of methamphetamine and a used glass pipe which Johnson had attempted to throw away in a trash can. Johnson admitted smoking methamphetamine within forty-eight hours of the accident, as well as regular meth use over the past years. Her blood sample was submitted for testing.

Details of the drivers injuries were not available at press time. Johnson had not been charged or booked as of press time.

YCSO advises the following charges are under review and include Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of a Dangerous Drug, and Tampering Physical Evidence. A charge of DUI involving drugs is pending outcome of Johnson’s blood test.
