Cornville Man Commits Suicide

Yavapai County Map Area CommandsSedona AZ (April 15, 2014) – Just after 1:30 in the afternoon of April 14, 2014, Yavapai County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to a home in the 11900 Block of East Mingus View Drive, Cornville, Arizona.

Deputies were told that the live-in girlfriend of Joshua Myers, 35, and her daughter had been held hostage at gunpoint for two hours following a domestic argument. Myers eventually released both mother and daughter, threatened suicide, and indicated he would “have a shootout” with law enforcement if they came to the home.

Once released with her daughter, Myers’ girlfriend contacted YCSO and reported the incident while confirming that Myers’ was still in the home.

Myers remained uncooperative throughout the afternoon and refused to surrender. Deputies established Myers was heavily armed and had access to a police scanner and gas masks inside the residence. The YCSO SWAT team was notified and it began staging the vicinity.

Around 9:20 in the evening, Myers was observed in the home’s rear yard armed with a hand gun, even with the knowledge deputies had surrounded the residence. At this time, Myers committed suicide by way of a self-inflicted gun shot wound to his head.

No shots were fired by YCSO.

During the service of a search warrant inside the home, YCSO deputies found an AR-15 type rifle with several hundred rounds of ammunition nearby and ready to use along with a loaded pistol.

Citizens should contact the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office with information or questions at 928-771-3260 or the YCSO website at www.ycsoaz.gov.

  1. This is tragic but it seems a woman and her child were saved if not this time definitely in the future if he was not charged and jailed that happens in circumstances like this.

    Condolences to the families there.
