Sedona AZ (March 11, 2013) – While predicting when an emergency will occur is impossible, becoming prepared to handle an emergency is not. In less time than one might think, American Red Cross training can give an individual the vital knowledge and skills needed to respond to a life-threatening situation with confidence.

Sedona Parks and Recreation, in cooperation with certified American Red Cross Instructor Erin Estes, are able to offer a variety of Red Cross courses this spring and summer. Classes will include Lifeguard Certifications and Water Safety Instructor.

Advance registration for all classes is required in advance to insure that the class size reaches its minimum. The Professional Lifeguarding course begins April 6, 2013. This class will be held for two consecutive weekends. The Water Safety Instructor course begins April 26 and is beneficial for individuals interested in teaching swim lesson classes. All classes can be registered for online at www.SedonaAZ.gov/Parks under the Sports and Specialty Classes menu.

The Sedona Community Pool, located at 570 Posse Ground Road, Posse Grounds Park. The pool is open for business this spring from April 1 through May 24, 2013.  The spring schedule will offer Open Swim, Lap Swim, and Water Aerobics.

The pool will be open to the public Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Our year round water aerobics classes are currently operating at the indoor pool at the Villas of Sedona.  As soon as the weather is warm enough, this program will move back to our beautiful outdoor pool, Monday through Thursday mornings at 9 a.m.  This location change should take place by the end of April.  Please contact the pool for details at 928-282-0112.  Parents may enjoy bringing their children for Open Swim on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Prices are $2 for children (17 and under) and seniors (55+) and $3 for adults. Water Aerobics have a $5 drop in fee. The water is 83 degrees or warmer so join us for a swim.  The Summer Schedule for the pool will take effect on May 25 and will be available to the public by the beginning of May.

What is more fun than an egg hunt? It is a Celebration of Spring! Join City of Sedona Parks and Recreation on Saturday, March 30, 2013, from 9 a.m. to Noon for this fun, family- friendly event held at Posse Grounds Park, 525 Posse Ground Road, west Sedona. All those in the community that enjoy spring and the outdoors are invited.

Once you arrive, walk to the Posse Grounds Park lower softball field for admission tickets and join the games and visit the vendors. There is a $2 admission fee for children 12 and younger. Included with the fee are inflatable toys for kids, petting zoo, pony rides, face painting, carnival rides and much more.

The official egg hunt begins at 10 a.m. for children 8 years of age and younger. Start times will be staggered to accommodate each age group division. The hunt goes fast, so we recommend children be ready by 10 a.m. sharp. Children will be divided into age groups (0-2, 3-5, 6-8) with thousands of eggs waiting to be found. Parents may only help children 2 years or younger.

If your children are too old for the egg hunt, at 10:30 a.m., there will be a scavenger hunt around the park for children 9 to 12 years of age. This is a fun event and all are invited.

We encourage pre-purchase of tickets beginning Monday, March 18, 2013, at the Parks and Recreation Office, Sedona City Hall, 102 Roadrunner Drive. Tickets are limited. For more information, contact Sedona Parks and Recreation at 928-282-7098.
