Chinese New Year Celebrated in Sedona

Sedona AZ (February 21, 2010) – The Rotary Club of Sedona and Magical Journeys™ will present a celebration of Chinese food and culture on February 28, 2010 at the Red Chopstick Restaurant in Village of Oak Creek, Sedona Arizona.

In 2008, the Rotary Club of Sedona began a new tradition. In recognition and support of the international scope of Rotary charitable activities, the Sedona Rotary Club created “New Years All Year Round!” The idea is to host a local, fund-raising New Years dining and entertainment event that reflects the way other cultures celebrate the beginning of a new year. The proceeds of the event are distributed through the club’s charitable endowment fund to both local and international projects.

Past events have included Jewish “Head of the Year” (Rosh Hashanah) as well as a celebration with our friends in the Verde Valley Korean community. The food has been great and the cultural programs instructive and fun!

This year’s New Year celebrations start in the Village of Oak Creek and have been selected by Magical Journeys ™ to be part of its 2010 series of events. Magical Journeys ™ is the brainchild of the Sedona Village Creative Initiative, an informal group committed to creating a strong alliance between residents and the business community by designing and fostering events that will enhance the community’s economic, social and cultural well-being.

February 28, 2010 is the last day of the traditional fifteen day New Year’s celebration and 2010 is the Chinese Year of the Tiger. A reception and dinner will be held at the Red Chopstick restaurant in the Village of Oak Creek. Chef Simon Ho has planned a special eight-course dinner. Chef Ho’s selections, according to Chinese legend, will bring good luck and well-being to those participating. A reception with tea, as well as a cash bar and a presentation of the lion dance, and an explanation of the Chinese New Year’s traditions will be explained before Chef Ho performs his famous noodle-making demonstration.
