Camp Verde Fatal Traffic Accident

ycso carSedona AZ (February 10, 2014) – On February 8, 2014, just before 6 PM, Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a traffic accident on Fossil Creek Road, approximately 19 miles from State Highway 260, in Camp Verde. A 2001 white Isuzu Rodeo SUV was found about 100 feet from the dirt road down a hillside. Camp Verde Fire Department personnel were already on scene and informed deputies that Stephanie Steele, 30, had been pronounced dead. A 36-year-old man, William Jordon, was being treated by paramedics.

Jordan indicated Steele was his wife and that she had been the Isuzu driver. The couple reside in Phoenix.

Deputies spoke with Jordan briefly as he was prepared for flight to John C. Lincoln Hospital in Phoenix. He stated that the two had driven from Phoenix intending to camp at the Verde hot springs near the Child’s campground. Jordan further explained that when road conditions became difficult, Stephanie was unable to prevent their vehicle from going over the side and crashing. He admitted neither one of them had been wearing seat belts.

Deputies found open beer cans in and around the vehicle at the crash site.

The investigation remains ongoing in order to verify the driver of the vehicle at the time of the accident, and other specific causal factors. Cause of death is pending Medical Examiner findings and witness interviews.

Citizens can contact the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office with information or questions at 928-771-3260.
