Sedona AZ (November 4, 2012) – In a Letter to the SedonaEye.com editor, Sedona resident Warren Woodward submits the following as information and as an opinion:

I have always said that Sedona’s City Councilors busy themselves with nonsense. The situation is worse than I imagined. The best that can be said is at least we don’t pay them by the hour.

Someone sent me the link (below) to all their committees and commissions — 4 pages! — which could more realistically be narrowed down to 1/2 a page.

What’s really a hoot is the “Agenda Setting Team“. With 5 members of the City staff and 2 councilors on the “Team”, guess who is setting the agenda?

“Sedona as a Center for Arts Education” — This novel governmental body meets twice a month?! What could they be doing other than plotting how to waste our money? I think “Sedona as a Center for Con Arts Education” would be more appropriate. Vested interests and various beggar groups could teach others how to game the system and maintain a respected position at the trough.

And speaking of that, I love the cozy “public/private” relationship Council keeps with the “Chamber of Commerce Marketing Committee.” No wonder some have suggested we just turn the government over to the COC and be done with it.

Those not familiar with the infamous “Housing Commission” soon will be. They plan to invade neighborhoods lucky enough to be designated “Housing Development Areas” with so-called “affordable housing” — this after a 50% real estate crash.

I think the first “Development Areas” should be right next door to the councilors who voted for it.

“Municipal Tax Code Committee“? Hmmm….surely no good can come from anything with that name.

“Breakfast with the Mayor“? Bring a sick bag.

And just wait until the “Sustainability Commission” starts telling you what to do, Comrade.

Oh Sedona, is that when you’ll wake up?
