ADOT I-17 Guardrail Repair and Overnight Work Update

ADOT photoSedona AZ (February 9, 2013)The Arizona Department of Transportation will repair guardrail at two locations south of Camp Verde on southbound Interstate 17 on Monday, February 11, 2013, during daytime hours.

The first repair will take place just south of the State Route 169 and I-17 junction (mileposts 275-276), on February 11, 2013, from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Crews will then proceed to repair guardrail on southbound I-17 (mileposts 271-272) just north of the Orme/Dugas exit from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The work will require alternating lane restrictions for southbound traffic during work hours to provide a safe work zone for maintenance crews.

The speed limit through the work zones will be reduced to 45 mph during work hours. Minimal delays are expected, however ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.

The following late night lane restrictions and daytime shoulder closures will be in place at the junction of Interstate 17 and State Route 69 in Cordes Junction next week, according to the ADOT:

Monday, February 11, 2013:

▪ Northbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane overnight from 5 p.m. to 6 a.m. to allow crews to restripe the roadway.

▪ Southbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane overnight from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. as crews perform work in the median.

▪ SR 69 will have shoulder closures approaching the southbound on-ramp onto I-17 between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. to allow crews to install lighting and seed the work zone along the roadway.

Tuesday, February 12:

▪ Northbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane from 6 a.m. to noon as crews set concrete barrier along the roadway.

▪ SR 69 will have shoulder closures approaching the southbound on-ramp onto I-17 between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. to allow crews to install lighting and seed the work zone along the roadway.

▪ The SR 69 flyover bridge over I-17 will be narrowed to one lane from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. to allow crews to perform work on the bridge.

▪ I-17 will be narrowed to one lane in each direction overnight from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. to allow crews to work in the median.

Wednesday, February 13 and Thursday, February 14:

▪ I-17 will be narrowed to one lane in each direction from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. for median work.

▪ SR 69 and I-17 will have shoulder closures approaching Cordes Junction between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. to allow crews to install lighting and seed the work zone along the roadway.

Friday, February 15:

▪ SR 69 and I-17 will have shoulder closures approaching Cordes Junction between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. to allow crews to install lighting and seed the work zone along the roadway.

The work is part of a $50 million project to reconstruct the I-17/SR 69 traffic interchange.

The work zone will be clearly marked by temporary barricades and signage. Drivers are advised to allow additional time to reach their destinations and to proceed through the work zone with caution, comply with the reduced speed limit, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.

ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.   1. Paving work on SR 74 will impact drivers this week near Wickenburg AZ – Drivers should expect delays up to 30 minutes at SR 74 and US 60 junction.

    Crews will continue paving State Route 74 this week that will require delays of up to 30 minutes at the US 60 and SR 74 junction, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

    Work hours are from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.

    Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes if possible and can expect delays of up to 30 minutes as traffic will be restricted to one lane and guided through work zone with a pilot car.

    The work is part of an ongoing 22-mile pavement preservation project that consists of removing a layer of the existing pavement, repaving the roadway and drainage improvements. No weekend or holiday work is scheduled on the project. Weather can affect a project schedule.

    The $9 million pavement improvement project is scheduled for completion by early summer.

    ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.

  2. There is a quarterly “Leap Frog” highway litter event scheduled for February 16, 2013 for all of Yavapai County.

    Many Adopt-A-Highway groups will be on Highway 260 and Highway 89A during this “Leap Frog” litter event to restore the beauty to “America & Arizona the Beautiful”.

    Adopt-A-Highway groups from Dewey, Prescott Valley and Prescott will be in attendance on Highway 169, 69 and 89.

  3. Buckled pavement closes US 89 south of Page – Detour will add 45 miles around closure using US 160 and SR 98

    US 89 in northern Arizona is closed because a 150-foot section of pavement buckled this morning about 25 miles south of Page, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

    The cause is not related to weather and may be a geologic event.

    US 89 is closed northbound at US 89A, which takes traffic west toward Jacob Lake. In Page, US 89 is closed at the junction with State Route 98.

    The alternate route to Page will take drivers east on US 160 to SR 98 (about 50 miles) and north on SR 98 to Page. The detour is about 45 miles longer than the direct route.

    It is not known at this time how long the road will be closed.
