Arizona highway blue bags filled with litter

Arizona Adopt a Highway and America the Beautiful & Bag Ready Jobs volunteers pick up highway litter four times a year

Sedona AZ (February 4, 2015) The following is a letter to the SedonaEye.com editor:

Dear Editor,

Reese’s Tire & Automotive Tire Pros offers support to Adopt-A-Highway groups.

For several years, Reese’s Tire & Automotive Tire Pros has been a supporter of the “America the Beautiful & BagReadyJobs” empowering our nation’s youth effort which includes our Verde Valley ADOT Adopt-A-Highway groups.

We wish to continue our support of this effort since we believe that the image and economy of our community partially depends on the efforts of the ADOT Adopt-A-Highway groups that keep our highways clean.

Reese’s Tire & Automotive Tire Pros will be providing free coffee and doughnuts to the Verde Valley, ADOT Adopt-A-Highway groups that clean our highways on the Saturdays of February 21, May 16, August 15 and November 21, 2015. Our Saturday hours of operation are from 8 am until 2 pm.

We at Reese’s Tire & Automotive Tire Pros hope that other Verde Valley businesses will join us in our efforts to thank and reward the many Adopt-A-Highway groups that make the Verde Valley and Yavapai County more appealing to our local residents and visitors.

Neil Dixon, Owner Reese’s Tire & Automotive Tire Pros

  3. A special shout out thank you to Gary Chamberlain ( Folksville USA ) all volunteers, sponsors, who have continuously supported the war against roadside cancer (also know as societies Litter) !

It takes a special kind of person ( to dedicate countless hours to service ) the ugly devastation of social littering , I sincerely hope that any reader / viewer of the work of Folksville USA will take what ever they can offer up and join the efforts!

To join in & participate in helping reduce litter is as easy as calling Gary Chamberlain / writing an article of appreciation, or supporting the sponsors of !

Great work Gary & Company , much appreciated …Sincerely Litter King

  4. CLK is correct about litter volunteers highway work should be appreciated and are under supported. Volunteer to pick up litter. Reese’s Tires in Cottonwood deserves its community support, patronize businesses supporting a cleaner Arizona. Prescott area litter lifters are appreciated too.

  5. Is there a better example of a collaborative, regional endeavor to benefit everyone? No power grabbers here. Just folks that not only put up but shut up and ask for nothing in return. Thank you one and all.

  6. Thank you for your comments and please keep the comments coming,

If the Verde Valley is ever going to succeed in reversing most of the littering in our area then businesses, residents, mayors and managers are going to need to get seriously involved.

In the seven years that I have worked with the local businesses, residents and managers in the Verde Valley, the MOST supportive folks have been the businesses, residents and newspapers.

It’s sad to say but there have only been two mayors and two managers that have actually assisted with the advancement of this issue and gone out of their way to recognize the efforts of the ADOT Adopt-A-Highway groups noted. Those two mayors and two managers were/are Mayor Rob-Sedona, Manager Tim Ernster-Sedona, Mayor Charlie German-Camp Verde and Manager Russ Martin. Mayor Rob Adams actually paved the way for me to speak at a Verde Valley Mayors meeting in addition to having the Sedona Council recognize our efforts.

I have repeatedly contacted all of the Verde Valley mayors and managers, asking them to get involved in thanking and recognizing these Adopt-A-Highway groups, by name, at their council meetings once per year and some newspaper recognition with no results!

A thank you goes a very long way!

You wouldn’t think that you would have to ask a mayor or manager to do this for all that these folks do to make our communities look good but go figure.

Tourist season, home construction, real estate sales and other economic considerations depend upon our communities looking the best they can, you would think our leaders (mayors and managers) would invest a minor amount of time thanking and recognizing these groups.

Mayors and managers, if you contact me I can provide most of the contact information for these groups, all you need to do is ask. Where are the Chamber of Commerce and NFIB organizations on this effort?

  7. I am totally shocked that only two mayors have shown any gratitude for all the efforts in keeping their communities clean and green ( I would be willing to bet my left nut ) that the mayors don’t love accepting awards for having clean communities that sometimes are given !

All I can say is ( when it comes down to being the true patriots of America ) (Country Serving Folks ) we all know who they are ….thanks Folksville Crew !

  8. Corrections and comments,

correction, the Camp Verde Town Council sign reads “Camp Verde Town Council”, will other Verde Valley community leaders (Sedona, Cottonwood, Clarkdale, Jerome) join them?

Where are our educators on the topic of anti-littering messages? Our educators may have the greatest impact on changing the attitudes of those that litter.

I’m hoping that the businesses of Yavapai County and those listed below, will reemerge, support and contact one of the local Adopt-A-Highway groups in their area and join Reese’s Tire.

I have been in contact with the office of Diane Douglas Superintendent of Schools and others, will you do the same by contacting those listed below?
