Sedona Farmers Market Losses Staggering

The Sedona Farmers Market lost eight vendors this week and closing the market is under serious consideration at this time.

Mayor Rob Adams has assured Market management in a recent e-mail that city staff is working diligently and in good faith to find a solution quickly.  No further details have been released.  In the meantime, more vendors are leaving the venue.

Please ask members of the city council to expedite a temporary exemption to permit placing a farmers market sign on private property this week until a long term permanent solution is found.

All are invited to attend:

Tuesday, July 13th at 4pm
City Council Chambers
102 Roadrunner Drive,
Sedona AZ 86336

Schedule for City Council Meeting:

At 4pm:  Since the market lost so many vendors this week, we have decided to make a showing at the city council meeting this week in front of city council chambers.  Instead of a protest, market management will make a presentation and talk about the history of the market, where it is now and where it is going.  We will talk about the role a traditional farmers market plays in creating a local sustainable food network. Meet some of our local growers, see how the market ties into the agricultural renaissance of the Verde Valley.  Meet members of a Verde Valley ranching family who have been in this valley for 88 years.

Everyone is encouraged and invited to attend! It will be informative and fun while we will encourage the city council to take action quickly to bring directional signage to the market in the public forum.

At 4.30pm:  City Council Meeting begins inside city council chambers and market management will speak in public forum as well as a few other members of our market family.   You can leave after the public forum if you wish.  While the council is not allowed to comment on items in the public forum, it is important to keep our voices heard until the issue is resolved and our market can thrive again.

If you are unable to attend these meeting, you can e-mail:

    Greetings,

the signage issue for the market is a very fluid situation. After speaking with one of the members of Council this morning, we are convinced that all our voices in support of the market have been heard.

City Staff is working diligently and in earnest with the market to find a solution. The city has been very supportive of the market this last year.

Different options are being looked at to resolve the signage issue quickly at this time. The city needs to time for deliberation and to execute proper procedures.

The market is stepping back and is asking its supporters to allow city staff time for deliberation to look at possible solutions and make their decision.

If need be, there will be another time to step forward with an appropriate response.

There is no need for a public showing this afternoon or at 4.30pm at the city council session.

The market is in deep gratitude to all its supporters and to the city of Sedona for working with us on this issue.

    Sincerely,

    Katrin Themlitz
