Sedona AZ–On April 27, the Yavapai County April 2011 Unsung Hero Award was presented to Tom Graham of Sedona Arizona by County Supervisor Chip Davis. Graham was nominated by Mel Copen, President of the Big Park Regional Coordinating Council (BPRCC) in the Village of Oak Creek, for exemplary service to his local community and the greater Sedona area.
Graham has served on the BPRCC as Vice President, Corresponding Secretary and, currently, as both Recording and Corresponding Secretary. Tom is also the Big Park Regional Coordinating Council’s liaison to the Red Rock Enhancement Maintenance District and serves on its Planning and Zoning Committee. He volunteers time to the Sedona Village Business Association, Keep Sedona Beautiful, Village Park Recreation Inc., Northern League of Arizona Opera, and the All American Road Committee.
Noting Graham’s many community efforts during the Unsung Hero award presentation, Supervisor Davis commented that Tom “gives selflessly of time to his community.” Graham, in accepting the award remarked, “volunteering is a way of life” adding that he “loves to help the many non-profits that do so much good work” for the community. Each monthly Unsung Hero is asked to choose a favorite song to accompany the award presentation, and Graham chose Johnny Cash’s “Don’t Wear Your Guns to Town.”
The Yavapai County Unsung Hero Award is presented monthly to a Yavapai Countian who, “somehow encourages, enlightens others, and makes Yavapai County a better place to live.” Nominations for 2011 Unsung Hero Awards are to be directed to DeShannan Young or Chris Moran with Supervisor Davis’ office at (928) 639-8110 and or email to deshannan.young@co.yavapai.az.us.
