2015 Arizona Indian Festival

az super bowl logoSedona AZ (January 28, 2015)The Arizona American Indian Tourism Association (AAITA) will host the Arizona Indian Festival from January 29 through January 31, 2015, at the City of Scottsdale Civic Center Mall. The family-friendly event will include a full schedule of distinctive and traditional culture and resources to showcase the diversity of the American Indian Tribes of Arizona.

The 2015 American Indian Festival is presented by the Arizona American Indian Tourism Association and Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts. It is a free event that offers a unique opportunity to experience authentic events, activities, entertainment and an arts and crafts market.

The Ak-Chin Indian Community and the Gila River Indian Community, both partners of the Arizona Super Bowl Host Committee, will participate in the festivities. Events and activities for this festival will include speaking and interacting with tribal elders, story-telling of ancient legends, colorful social dances, authentic American Indian foods, traditional dwelling and demonstrations from Arizona’s best American Indian artisans with traditional and contemporary Native American music. The Ak-Chin Ba’Ban Keihina Traditional Dancers also will perform on Wednesday, January 28 from 2:00 until 2:30 p.m. on Verizon Super Bowl Central at the Pepsi Hyped for Halftime Stage. The Ak-Chin Band also will perform on Thursday, January 29 from 2:00 until 2:30 p.m.

indian festivalThe Ak-Chin Indian Community is nestled into the Santa Cruz Valley of Southern Arizona. The Community lies 58 miles south of Phoenix in the northwestern part of Pinal County. Ak-Chin is an O’odham word translated to mean “mouth of the wash” or “place where the wash loses itself in the sand or ground.” Ak-Chin has an enrollment of more than 1,004 tribal members and a land base of just over 22,000 acres. The Ak-Chin Indian Community has a variety of business enterprises including Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club, UltraStar Multi-tainment Center at Ak-Chin Circle and Santa Cruz Commerce Center. Gila River Indian Community, located on 372,000 acres in south-central Arizona is home to the indigenous people of O’odham (Pima) and Pee Posh (Maricopa). The Tribe is comprised of seven districts, the administrative offices and departments are located in Sacaton and serve the people throughout the seven communities. A 100% of its profits from gaming and 17 other Enterprises are utilized by the community providing services and opportunities to achieve the highest quality of life.

The Super Bowl is America’s number one watched television program and culminates the NFL football season. Arizona will host its third Super Bowl in nineteen years on Sunday, February 1, 2015. Super Bowl XLIX will be played at the University of Phoenix Stadium.
