The Craigslist of Local Produce

Hello my name is Sandy Boyce and I am the director of the Verde Valley CSA, a volunteer-run non-profit organization in our fourth season.  Since we are the first and only CSA in the Verde Valley, I have been invited to speak at panels and workshops on local foods.

At a panel discussion a few months ago with the chef of a great Italian restaurant, the produce manager of a large health food store and a large local grower, we all agreed that we needed a way for buyers to connect directly with local growers.  As we walked out of the seminar, my husband, who is an economist and a major techie said, “Why don’t we create something online?”

So we designed sandysproduce.com an online marketplace for buying and selling local produce–like a Craigslist for local foods.  As far as I can tell, it is the only service of its kind in the nation.

Local growers and ranchers list their fruits, vegetables, herbs, eggs and grass fed meats; chefs, businesses and individuals simply go to the listings in their city and contact the grower directly.  Listings are free for small growers and $99 a year for large growers.  Buyers are always free.

Growers and ranchers are now listing their items and selling them!  Sandysproduce.com is proving to be a useful tool, connecting our growers with the community.
