Sedona AZ (October 12, 2011) – At its October 11, 2011 meeting, the Sedona City Council appointed Kenneth Jepson, Kathryn Losoff, and Noel Marquis to serve on the Personnel Board. This five-member board serves as an advisory board to the City Manager in determining whether just cause existed for dismissal, demotion, or suspension without pay of classified, non-probationary employees; and that proper procedures have been followed in such matters.
The Personnel Board meets on call of the Chairman or Secretary or a majority of the members of the Board to hear appeals submitted by full-time, non-probationary employees in the classified service, in relation to his or her dismissal, demotion, or suspension without pay. In conducting an investigation or hearing, the Board shall have the power to examine witnesses under oath.
This is a good time to mention that the City of Sedona needs to fill three seats on the Budget Oversight Commission. The vacancies are for two-year terms from January 1, 2012 through December 31, 2014. Citizens interested in serving on this commission must be Sedona residents or own a business within the corporate limits of the City of Sedona.
The deadline to submit applications to be considered for the Budget Oversight Commission is Thursday, November 17, 2011. Meetings are typically held the Third Wednesday of each Month, November through May from 10:00 a.m. to noon. The Budget Commission advises staff and the City Council in preparation of the five-year capital plan and annual budget. The commission is solely advisory to the Council but plays a key role in providing important public input on budget policy, including revenue recommendations, capital planning processes and prioritization for continuation or elimination of programming and services in order to maintain a balanced budget.
Commission members must commit to becoming familiar with the Annual Budget and Budget Process and various other financial policies and reporting tools. The Annual Budget and Audit documents are available at the City Clerk’s Office or on the city website at www.SedonaAZ.gov/Finance. The City Council is interested in a group that broadly represents the community; therefore a financial background is not required to serve. Applications may be picked up at the City Clerk’s Office, 102 Roadrunner Drive, Sedona City Hall. For additional information, please contact Alison Zelms at (928) 204-7127.
