Private Extensions of Sedona Sewer System Approved

The Sedona City Council recently approved a process for private extensions of the public wastewater system.  The change in policy will affect properties where City-funded sewer has not been installed and allows for privately funded extensions of the system so that properties can connect. The new policy will help to assure that capacity for treatment and effluent management is maintained for all properties that currently have sewer available for connection.

This process change has no impact on properties where a sewer main is already available for connection.  New connections to existing sewer mains are not considered “extensions” of the system.  They are simply new connections to the available sewer system.

This process allows for small self-financed expansions of the sewer collection system, up to 5,000 gallons per day of increased sewer availability, upon the approval of the City Engineer.  All necessary approvals must be finalized for the extension prior to August 1, 2011.  Timeliness of construction and approval from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality  (ADEQ) is a requirement of the extension approval process.

Contact the City Engineer, Charles Mosley at (928) 204-7122 or cmosley@sedonaaz.gov for more information about the requirements for approval and for inquiries regarding whether your property qualifies.  Each case will be handled individually in order to address specific site issues. Approvals through ADEQ and the City are expected to take in excess of three months to process. Extensions must be designed by an engineer.
