Sedona AZ (January 31, 2014) – On Wednesday, January 29, 2014, a little after 4:00 p.m., Coconino County Sheriff’s Emergency Dispatchers received multiple cell phone calls from individuals reporting a collision between a SUV and a school bus. Several of the callers reported that the driver of the SUV was trapped inside her vehicle.
Deputies assisted Summit Fire District firefighters in extricating the trapped 66-year-old driver from her vehicle. Once emergency crews removed the driver, she was transported to the Flagstaff Medical Center Emergency Room by Guardian Medical Transport with non-life threatening injuries. The bus driver, the only occupant of the school bus, was uninjured.
Judging from information received during interviews with witnesses and physical evidence found on the roadway, investigators believe the SUV was east bound on Townsend Winona Road before crossing into the west bound lane and impacting the school bus.
The collision remains under investigation.
