Rabbi Alicia Magal of the Jewish Community of Sedona and the Verde Valley, Sedona, Arizona, invites all Jews to the Shabbat Across America celebration March 7 and March 8, 2014
Sedona AZ (February 25, 2014) – Imagine an entire Friday evening dinner and Shabbat morning service dedicated to people who want to know more about Judaism. Imagine, too, sharing Shabbat with the entire Jewish community throughout the Verde Valley. This is what Shabbat Across America is all about.
Here is your opportunity to experience the beauty and joy of Shabbat. It’s as easy as calling Anita Rosenfield at 928-284-2750 or the office of the Jewish Community of Sedona and the Verde Valley. Shabbat Across America is designed by the National Jewish Outreach Program so that Jews across the U.S.A. and Canada can immerse themselves in a “family Shabbat.” In hundreds of synagogues and Jewish communities like ours throughout the U.S. and Canada, tens of thousands of Jews will celebrate Shabbat together—many for the first time in their lives—on Friday evening, March 7, 2014. At JCSVV, we will continue the celebration at our Shabbat morning service on Saturday, March 8, 2014.
Shabbat Across America is designed to assist all Jews, even those who are not affiliated with a synagogue, to participate in the joy of Shabbat. At JCSVV our Erev Shabbat dinner will begin at 5:30 p.m. with delicious homemade food prepared by our Shabbat Across America chefs. We will eat, pray, sing, and rejoice together as one communal family.
Our celebration will continue on Saturday morning, March 8, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. with a Shabbat morning Torah service, which will be followed by a potluck parve (no meat)/dairy-veggie kiddush luncheon.
Everyone is invited—and encouraged—to come to one or both of these events: Singles, Couples, Families, Children of all ages. It’s a mitzvah if you bring your friends with you.
Although there is no charge for either event, we suggest a tax deductible donation of $25 for adults (no charge for children) for the Friday evening dinner to help defray costs. No charge for Saturday’s luncheon. The Religious Affairs and Shabbat Across America Committees are soliciting sponsors to help cover the costs for participants who are unable to make a donation for themselves.
To ensure enough food for everyone attending the Friday evening celebration, please RSVP no later than Wednesday March 5, 2014, to Anita Rosenfield or the JCSVV Office at 928-204-1286. No reservations are necessary for Saturday’s service and luncheon.
Please send donations to JCSVV for yourself and for sponsorships so they arrive no later than Wednesday, March 5, 2014, and mark “SAA” in the memo line.
