Yavapai County Supervisor Davis to Run for AZ State House Office

Yavapai County Supervisor Chip Davis

Yavapai County Supervisor Chip Davis announces candidacy for State House of Representatives LD-1 office

Sedona AZ (July 30, 2015) – A.G. “Chip” Davis, Yavapai County Supervisor for District 3, announced his candidacy for the Arizona House of Representatives, Legislative District 1, today. Davis is seeking the seat currently held by Karen Fann (R-Prescott), who has announced that she will run for the District 1 Senate seat that will be vacated by current District 1 Senator Steve Pierce (R-Prescott).

Davis, a Republican with roots in Yavapai County dating back to the 1880s, is currently serving his fifth term as Yavapai County Supervisor for District 3 and has been chairman of the Board of Supervisors eight times. He is married and has four children and eight grandchildren.

“I look forward to working toward finding long-term solutions for the difficult issues facing the state with regard to education, transportation, natural resources, budget and ensuring that rural Arizona continues to have a strong voice in the state legislature,” Davis said.

Legislative District 1 encompasses most of Yavapai County and also includes New River, Anthem, Cave Creek and portions of Carefree in Maricopa County.

Former Yavapai County Administrator Jim Holst is serving as the campaign chairman for Davis’s election committee. Davis’s daughter, Savanna Fudge, is
serving as the treasurer, and former Yavapai County Clerk of the Board Bev Staddon is serving as the committee’s secretary.

  1. Running with the Big Dogs will come with a lot of behind the scenes scrutiny over the last twenty years actions as Supervisor. Buckle up.

  2. Peggy says:

He didn’t decide without going through the vetting process already!!

They were courting Adams for his seat but Adams is a progressive democrat. He’s too shallow and egotistical says party planners and didn’t do well as mayor of Sedona. On the other hand Fann will move up and keep on moving up. Do voters care?

  3. Who will fill the shoes of Chip Davis? Rob Adams? Tom O’Halleran? Or Madam “X” herself – Judy Reddington?

  4. Let Rob Adams get his foot in that door and watch what happens with his “vision” for his beloved “wetlands.” (Isn’t he presently serving on that Sedona committee with his pal Jennifer, drawing up plans for that area? All behind closed doors until the official unveiling whenever that is.)

As Yavapai County Supervisor what a convenient position to be in to approve whatever his heart desires as he did in Sedona to put in motion the dreadful three year contract with the regional chamber of commerce for unnecessary regional advertising (paid for with Sedona city tax revenue) and continued support for a bogus visitor center. Oh and BTW his wife Christine spoke before the Sedona city council on behalf of approving a National Monument designation!)This from a real estate sales agent married to a developer who is joined at the hip with the regional chamber of commerce and their affinity group, Sedona lodging council. Well (speaking of wells) as reported in the Arizona Republic (7/31/15) “two wastewater injection wells shut down after Oklahoma quakes.” Now ever since that rather large earthquake in this area – was it towards the end of last year(?) – haven’t there been ongoing tremors? Mr. Adams’ plans might be sunk before they ever reach fruition – one of his favorite words in Sedona regarding his vision for a creek park/walk to be dedicated in his honor. (never occurred – yet)

  5. There is already a lot of info out there if you just look at public record and how business runs in the Village.

    Speaking of Village
Timeshare saturation despite protest of residents.

The WASTEWATER Improvement District. Great info is located on the AZ Corp Comm website/ Admin/ Improvement District Services

The Red Rock Enhancment District(they just raised the SID in part,to pay the loser of the last campaign ten thousand dollars a year to watch the landscaper who makes sixty thousand a year to kill weeds on a mile strip of median. This job is not bid out either. This citizen panel has the power of the county supervisor and is the first public panel in the state of AZ for an unicorporated area. Where do you suppose this is headed?Admin/ Improvement District Services.

The Big Park Council? Small groups of business associations, one that does not exist and homeowners “groups” of three people voting on issues without being actual associations, homeowners associations that are actually parking lots running as a business association.
You can’t make this stuff up. They vote of important issues , then travel far and wide to tell people what we do and don’t support. It is a well oiled machine.

    Then we have VOCA.

Why wouldn’t Adams or O’Halleran want step in and continue the legacy already up and running.
I know……Prescott may not want them and 4 of the 5 Supervisors already in place are from the other side of the mountain.

  6. Judy Stein says:

Maybe Rob will kick some butt and make some changes with Yavapai College so that we can get equal education funding on this side of the mountains. Certainly Davis never did anything for us.

Keeping that in mind, if Rob doesn’t get his way and it always has to be HIS way, he’d just have a temper tantrum and run home to mommy.

  7. Sydney says:

Let’s talk Yavapai College. Let’s talk reality.

You don’t need and can’t support with bodies anything offered. It’s a proven fact. Osher Lifelong Learning, a free offering, barely draws speakers let alone old age bones in the chairs. And OSHER subject matter is relevant, timely and short. You want what from what?

The Clarkdale campus is better and more convenient. Yavapai College is on this side of the mountain. Except it’s located where there are PEOPLE.

Sedona has less than 10K residents, less than 2/3rds live there full time, and is statistically projected to lose residents for the next 10 years. The average age now is almost 56-58 and climbing annually. The people who expressed interest in YC have degrees. The remainder can get a free bus ride to Clarkdale. All 12 of them.

Move on. Dead issue. YC would offer Squirrel Shooting in Sedona if it made a penny. It doesn’t. MOVE ON. The handful of people in Sedona wanting YC funding are narcissists.

  8. Judy Stein says:

    Sydney

I agree that the courses may be best served in Clarkdale but the college is killing the Clarkdale campus also. They have spent millions on a first class facility in Prescott and give the verde valley crumbs the proof being a “cooking school”.

What you are failing to realize is that this side of the mountains give a large chunk of the tax money when we get very little in return.

  9. Sydney says:

Viticulture is not crumbs; it’s jobs and it is economic stimulus. Sedona wanted timeshares, motels/hotels/resorts and created a service industry that doesn’t require highly skilled workers, and requires no stimulus for more than what it is.

Every timeshare and motel drives economic viability down, diminishes taxable returns and real estate values. Sedona is in the hands of developers and a government with contradictory self interests and political thin wallets who are recognized statewide for being short term ROI. Most Sedona businesses are owned by off site entities. That speaks volumes to professionals and politicians statewide about growth.

The wetlands scheme, the reverse wastewater wells, infrastructure, unchecked and unnecessary low income construction, speaks to lack of imagination and lack of ability to protect assets and stimulate growth.

Sedona doesn’t like Sedona. Self hatred undermines your town.

That side of the mountain doesn’t compete with the other side for revenue generation or the ability to protect its economic drivers. Sedona narcissism is its downfall. Politicians don’t care about Sedona; it’s use pales in comparison to other county economic drivers.

  10. Bravo, Sydney, whomever you are. Saying it like it is doesn’t come without risks – especially in Sedona, Arizona.

  11. Al says:

The owner of this media group is right choice to represent every voice.

  12. Thomas says:

Cross off Tom O’Halleran as a replacement for Chip Davis. He’s tossed his hat in the ring as a registered Democrat candidate for the 1st Congressional District race, now open since Ann Kirkpatrick launched her 2016 campaign for Senate. See how easy it is? If things don’t go your way just change the color of your hat.

  13. Irving says:

The corrupt & to be corrupted, same faces, different seats, more government dysfunction. Voter choice nonexistent = voter apathy. Don’t play, no say.

  14. Same cast of characters trying to push for National Monument designation. Don’t be fooled. Watch for big development. Wet lands – Cultural Park. National Monument = more tourists, more government control. Wake up voters. Listen to Irving.

  15. Well, as a resident who HAS been paying attention in the Village, I’ll be prepared with a little history for my neighbors once the ego driven “helpers” start to surface. Stay Tuned…

  16. sharlett says:

    @Thomas and etc.

think you may want to re check your facts on your buddy O’Halloran. Seems he has yet again changed his coat of colors and now he is an Independent: Read on: http://tucson.com/news/local/tom-o-halleran-joins-cd-race-as-a-dem/article_21863cf4-0d6c-575f-86ab-6bd4302df5fc.html

How much more crazy does the political picture in our town need to get?

  17. @ sharlett

As long as you live in town…..there will always be ample crazy

  18. Let’s focus people…back to Davis.
He is likable but has become skilled at seeming like he is participating without actually contributing. We have witnessed this many times.

He also stated in verde independent that:

When he turned in nominating petitions for his supervisor post three years ago, Davis said this would be his final run on the Yavapai County Board of Supervisors. He wanted to turn his attention to helping his parents – now both in their 80s – on the family ranch in Wagoner, one hour southwest of Prescott.

But when he learned of Fann’s desire to seek the Senate seat now held by Pierce, old habits fell into the pattern of dying hard.

“It’s supposed to be a 100-day session, so I would be able to accomplish some things and still have time to help my parents,” Davis said. “I still think I have a few miles left in me.”

Does this mean in addition to acquiring a third retirement plan paid for by taxpayers, that he plans to NOT work on behalf of the people/taxpayers for the remaining 265 days of the year? Time to retire.

  19. Thomas says:

@Sharlett, what do you mean “check the facts.”

“Former Sedona state lawmaker Tom O’Halleran, a Republican-turned-independent now registered as a Democrat, will run for congress in northeastern Arizona.” quote from Arizona Republic, 8/4/15, page 5A: “Election 2016 – O-Halleran seeks Congress seat”

What is un-factual about that? And, for your information, he is not “my buddy.” You seem to get pleasure by attacking even those that are in agreement with your position. Do you really think that’s the best way to maintain a united front?

  20. steve Segner says:

Tom O’Halleran is a hard working all-around good guy.
Tom was always see as Republican Light , as a Democrat he can do a great job for us,
Un like Sharlett he actually goes to meeting and works on projects and does not sit home all day watching Fox news.
    ss

  21. GW says:

Thanks Steve Segner. Just your suggesting O’Halleran tells me to NOT vote for him. Everyone knows you lie.

  22. Representative Brenda Barton’s husband, Bruce, was admitted to the hospital on Thursday with acute abdominal pain. On Saturday morning he suffered a stroke. He is being transferred to Phoenix Banner Good Samaritan Hospital, as soon as possible. Please keep the Barton’s in your thoughts and prayers as they work through this serious medical situation. We will keep you posted as to Bruce’s condition.

    Thank you and God Bless,

  23. It’s official: Cottonwood mayor to seek office for Yavapai County Supervisor
oh my xxx….say it isn’t so
    Let the games begin……
APS and other utilities own this woman.
She has allowed smart meters and cell towers to overrun her city.
She cares NOTHING about the environment she pretends to cherish.
She tried to develop the state trust lands with 27,000 homes between Sedona and Cottonwood. Remember that debacle?
She must not be elected, Nor Davis, O’Halleran or any of that group of yahoos.

  24. sharlett says:

    @steve Segner

I find it so amusing that you keep kicking me regardless of the topic!!!! You have no clue of how I spend my days….and your favorite track is to just dish anyone who dares to oppose your golden words. Get a life!!!

  25. Good Point says:

@COTTONWOOD MAYOR JOENS FOR COUNTY SUPERVISOR
Well good to know. Let’s hope someone that has honor runs. Adams is worst then Joens.

  26. Judy Stein says:

Sharlett, I’m not a segner fan except when he says that you don’t go to meetings or work to better this city, is he wrong? You still refuse to give us your last or real name to impress us that you’re not some nut job.

  27. It’s none of your business what her last name is, Ms. Stein.

Certain Sedonans feed/gnaw off the opinions and carcasses of fellow neighbors, I would not give you my name either and I can assure you I have worked on many community projects for undeserving citizens like Steven Segner and probably yourself.

  28. sharlett says:

Hey Judy Stein – if you believe everything that your buddy segner says – well I’ve a bridge or two to sell you. Are you interested in purchasing either one of them?

    Didn’t think so.

So Judy – here’s the real take on me – Sharlett. I own a business, I watch many news broadcasts, including Fox news, I do attend and watch city meetings, I do participate in our City and all the issues and I do it with truth and respect for those silent majority who contact me on a regular basis and ask me to incorporate their wishes into my words.

Just because steve segner enjoys his bully tactics doesn’t mean I have to play his crappy game.

Seems to me what you and segner should be most concerned with are Facts and answering Factual questions with Factual answers rather than – what is your last name! Hogwash and a run around that you both use to avoid being truthful.

  30. Should Arizona Political Leaders and Candidates Weigh-in?

Since the “America the Beautiful & BagReadyJobs” effort is, has been and will continue to receive national attention, wouldn’t this topic be a great debate topic for Arizona’s political office holders and candidates?

The “America the Beautiful & BagReadyJobs” effort was born in Arizona and has received recognition from Democrats and Republicans, why don’t the candidates use “Cleaning up Arizona” as a campaign message? We will all win!

Engaged anti-litter groups and those that support them understand the importance of the image and economy of their community as it relates to litter, do our political leaders and candidates understand this principle?

Anti-litter “Economic Development” is something we can all participate in at some level.
