Associate Presiding Judge Appointed

Judge Michael Bluff, Clarkdale resident

The Hon. David L. Mackey, Presiding Judge of the Superior Court in Yavapai County, appointed the Hon. Michael R. Bluff as Associate Presiding Judge, with the approval of Chief Justice Rebecca White Berch, Arizona Supreme Court. The appointment was effective January 24, 2011. The Associate Presiding Judge serves as acting Presiding Judge during the Presiding Judge’s absence or unavailability.

Former Governor Janet Napolitano appointed Judge Bluff as a Superior Court Judge when Division 7 was created, effective January 1, 2008. Voters elected Judge Bluff to a four-year term starting January 1, 2009. Judge Bluff’s current assignment includes civil, domestic relations and probate cases filed in the Verde Valley Judicial District. Superior Court, Division 7, is located at the Yavapai County Courthouse in Camp Verde.

Reflecting on the appointment, Judge Bluff remarked, “I am honored to be appointed by Judge Mackey as Associate Presiding Judge and look forward to working with my fellow Judges to improve the quality of service we provide to Yavapai County.”

Judge Bluff is the second Verde Valley resident to serve as Associate Presiding Judge. Judge Richard Anderson of Camp Verde served as a Superior Court Judge for 17 years, from 1984 through 2001, and was appointed as Associate Presiding Judge 1990 – 1994 by former Presiding Judge James Hancock.

Judge Bluff is a resident of Clarkdale where he twice served as Mayor from 1996 to 1998 and from 2002 to 2004. He served on the Clarkdale Town Council from 1998 to 2002, and as Camp Verde Magistrate from 2005 until his appointment as a Superior Court Judge.
