Vote 2012: Prop 121 (Top-Two Primary Initiative)- A constitutional amendment on this November’s ballot would create a “top-two primary” in Arizona, where the two candidates with the highest number of votes in the primary election would face off in the general election, regardless of party affiliation.

Paul Johnson of the Open Government Act initiative will speak in favor of the top-two primary, while Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery will speak against it.

“The Tohono O’odham resort and casino is a huge win for Glendale and its residents. This project will be a great economic generator and job creator for Glendale, while expanding tourism in the surrounding areas.

This massive economic development project is sure to create new jobs in the short-term during the building process, in addition to long-term job opportunities once opened and operating. In addition to the added economic benefit, the positive effect on local businesses will be astronomical.

My opponent has come out publicly denouncing the project, based on the merits of the federal government overstepping into our community. The fact of the matter is that our neighbors need jobs and economic certainty, not political rhetoric. I am not an economist, but it’s economics 101, if you build it, jobs will come. Jerry just doesn’t get it.

All around, this is great news for the State, for Glendale, and our community and neighbors.”

President Obama is deeply concerned by today’s announcement that the President of Azerbaijan has pardoned Ramil Safarov following his return from Hungary. Safarov confessed to the murder of Armenian Army officer Gurgen Margaryan in Budapest in 2004, and was serving a life sentence in Hungary for this brutal crime. We are communicating to Azerbaijani authorities our disappointment about the decision to pardon Safarov. This action is contrary to ongoing efforts to reduce regional tensions and promote reconciliation. The United States is also requesting an explanation from Hungary regarding its decision to transfer Safarov to Azerbaijan.

What action have you taken or are you going to take to recognize the exceptional efforts of the 30 ADOT Adopt-A-Highway groups and the Folksville USA effort in Northern Arizona relating to reducing highway litter issues?

These 30 groups are the “gold standard” for our ADOT Adopt-A-Highway program! They actually honor their commitment to the ADOT Adopt-A-Highway program.

Don’t you think it’s time for you and the Governor to recognize these 30 groups in the media and Arizona television? Don’t we need some role models in Arizona?

You know me, we’ve spoken many times, and you know our record!

What are you going to do to reward these efforts which enhance our Arizona economy through stimulating tourism, new residents and new businesses that may bring new jobs to Arizona?

We know Mr. Weiers will do just about anything to win. We have seen his vitrolic and nasty campaign tactics during the primary. I expect more of the same for the General Election. We cannot have his type of ‘career politician – more of the same’ thinking in Glendale City Hall. A majority of the primary voters in Glendale said the same thing.
