Supervisor Jack R. Smith on September 29, 2014 toured the Groom Creek area after a major storm cell hit on Saturday, September 27, 2014. Groom Creek was damaged with an apparent ‘super cell’ weather event. This storm caused a power outage in the area which included sections of Old Miner Rd, Yegan Road, Preddy Road, Preddy Loop and, Irish Girl Lane. The storm sheared off several power poles and trees and caused major damage to at least four (4) homes along with minor damage to 8-12 others. Approximately 30 homes, including those damaged, were without power. APS has been in the area replacing power poles and lines and hope to have power restored to the area by Thursday.

Yavapai County Emergency Management did an awesome job assisting the residents and notifying the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office. As a measure of safety, the Yavapai County Jeep Posse and a Forest Patrol Supervisor conducted a door to door check to determine if residents were in urgent need or had any injuries. The residents who were still home had adequate supplies and some were operating on backup generators. No medical issues were reported.
