I am a physician assistant who was working a locums contract at Navajo Hospital, Chinle, Arizona during November 2012. My schedule was 7 days on/7 off. During my off time I was pulled over in Jerome, Arizona by the local police. I was charged with DUI to the slightest. This matter is currently being handeled by another attorney. I am contacting you as I was subsequently taken by the Jerome PD to Yavapai County Jail where I was severly beaten without cause and denied medical attention.

After my release/bail, I was seen at a local ER in Cottonwood. My injuries are documented and photographed. I have no charges other than DUI to the slightest. However, the deputies beating me kept yelling, "quit resisting" I complied with everything asked of me at the jail and never said anything other than yes sir, no sir.

My face was pushed into a concrete wall, I was taken down, and several officers relentlessly began hitting me over and over. I am 42 years of age, professional, and without any previous criminal record whatsoever. I believe the officer in Jerome took me to Yavapai to be beaten down. She was extremely rude and unprofessional. I pointed this out to her and asked for her courtesy, professionalism, and basic respect. She began taunting me, calling me "Yoda" and "just another dumbass drunk" I heard her on her cell phone enroute to Yavapai, assumedly talking to deputies there.

She referred to me as "the VIP" Upon arrival I was being frisked with my head face forward against the wall when I reached from my side to catch my balance against the wall as they had me standing on one leg. As soon as I did this they yelled, "quit resisting!" a deputy pushed my face into the concrete wall, my eye exploded in blood, and I was subsequently beaten. Later, I identified myself as a PA-C to the RN stationed at the jail requesting medical attention for a head injury. He rendered no physical exam and told me to shut up or I would be tazed. I was unable to get medical attention for >24 hours.

Had I sustained a subdural hematoma, I could easily have died there. I luckily sustained several epidural hematomas. While in holding I heard three oher inmates being beaten by these same deputies. I am seeking legal representation for a civil suit. My research shows Yavapai as being regularly involved in excessive force. This cannot be allowed to continue. I have reported this to the FBI and have yet to hear back from the investigation they stated they would initiate. I am currently working an assignment in the Arctic. I am therefore best contacted via email.

Code of Ethics taken from the Yavapai County Sheriff's Department web site:

All representatives of this agency shall abide by the following Code of Ethics:
AS A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER, my fundamental duty is to serve mankind; to safeguard lives and property; to protect the innocent against deception, the weak against oppression or intimidation, and the peaceful against violence or disorder; and to respect the Constitutional rights of all men to liberty, equality, and justice.

I WILL keep my private life unsullied as an example to all; remain courageously calm in the face of danger, scorn or ridicule; develop self-restraint; and be constantly mindful of the welfare of others. Honest in thought and deed in both my personal and official life, I will be exemplary in obeying the laws of the land and the regulations of my agency. Whatever I see or hear of a confidential nature or that is confided to me in my official capacity will be kept ever secret unless revelation is necessary in the performance of my duty.

I WILL never act officiously or permit my personal feeling, prejudices, animosities or friendships to influence my decisions. With no compromise for crime and with relentless prosecution of criminals, I will enforce the law courteously and appropriately without fear or favor, malice or ill will, never employing unnecessary force or violence and never accepting gratuities.

I RECOGNIZE the badge of my office as a symbol of public faith, and will accept it as a public trust to be held so long as I am true to the ethics of the police service. I will constantly strive to achieve these objectives and ideals, dedicating myself to my chosen profession...law enforcement.

I WILL, as a representative of the agency, conduct myself in a manner which will not bring discredit to the agency. I shall obey the laws of the United States, the State of Arizona, County ordinances and local laws. I shall regulate my personal affairs which will not bring justified unfavorable criticism from my neighbors or other citizens or be involved personally in disturbances or incidents that could discredit the agency. I will realize that I am obligated to hold the public trust by striving to act in a professional manner. I understand I must remain constantly vigilant and aware that I am under the constant observation by the public. For this reason, it is essential that I strive to present myself in a professional manner whether on or off duty.
