Within the last couple of weeks, the Sedona Police Department responded to 2 additional burglaries in areas on both the east and west sides of the City. We are asking the public to report any suspicious or unusual activity they may see in their neighborhoods. We need the assistance of the community to keep our neighborhoods safe and crime free.

Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office detectives continue their investigation into 7

residential burglaries occurring since late February of this year in the Village of

Oak Creek. While canvassing target areas in recent days, detectives were told

about a man who had been going door to door checking to see if people were

home and claiming to have car trouble. A composite sketch of the man was

completed. The man is likely in his 20’s with light complexion and small pits in

his face as depicted in the sketch. His height was estimated at between 5’- 07”

and 6’-02” with an “average” build.

In the majority of these burglaries, the suspect or suspects used force to enter
sliding or french doors at the REAR of the property. The majority of items stolen include jewelry, cash, coins, tools, and some cases, firearms. Most of these burglaries have occurred during daylight hours.

YCSO is asking all residents to pay special attention to suspicious persons in their neighborhoods, especially if approached at home. In many cases, homeowner victims were away for long periods of time and had not alerted a trusted neighbor to watch their home. Also, consider storing valuables in a
safe place if your home will be unoccupied for extended time period. If you have an alarm, use it.

Streets involved in this crime series include Horse Canyon, Wildflower Circle, Lee Mountain, Verde Valley School Road, Deerfield Road, Regan Road and Deer Pass Road. Detectives are also coordinating efforts with Sedona Police detectives who are investigating several similar burglaries.

It has been reported that the police are on the lookout for a Silver Toyota Tundra with a logo on the side for possible “Septic” service. This vehicle may be involved in the recent robberies.

(If you notice anything out of the ordinary, call the police. If you had a stranger approach you with a question, call the police and report a description and other helpful information. It may be innocent query but if enough coincidental information adds up, the culprits may be discovered.)

The Association was informed this morning that one of the residences at Cachet in Las Piedras Subdivision was broken into this past Friday.

There have been 9 break ins of which 4 were in the Village of Oak Creek and 5 were in Sedona since last Saturday.

They are doing it during the day while the residents are going out for quick groceries, etc.

Please be very alert to the vehicles, people roaming the streets, etc. that might look suspicious or don’t belong in the area. Contact the police if you do.

Residential Burglaries Happening Around Sedona

Over the past four days, Sedona Police Department has received reports of four residential burglaries: Garnet Hill Dr, Zane Grey Dr, Badger Dr and Morgan Rd. Entry was gained through a rear door and the homeowner’s luggage or similar container was used to take items out of the home. Items taken from these homes included jewelry and portable safes with personal papers.

Sedona Police Detectives are conducting follow up investigation on these crimes to develop leads to assist in identifying the person(s) involved in committing these offenses. The detectives are working closely with investigators from the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office who are looking into similar burglaries that have recently occurred in the Village of Oak Creek.

While the police department is hopeful that these suspects can be identified, there are some basic measures that residents can take to increase the security of their homes.

These include:

• Make it a habit to lock and secure your doors and windows even when leaving for a short period of time. This includes setting your alarm system.

• If you are going to out of town for a few days, let a trusted neighbor know when you will be out of town and whether or not there should be anyone at your home.

• Setting your alarm even if you do have someone checking on the house or feeding your pets.

• Utilizing the Sedona Police Department’s Vacation Property Watch Program.

• Immediately report any suspicious activity in your neighborhood. You know what is normal and who should be in your neighborhood. Please call the Sedona Police Department at 982-282-3100 to report anything suspicious or out of the ordinary.

Please remember, if you should arrive home and discover an open door or a damaged door, do not go in your home as someone may still be in your house. Return to your vehicle or go to a neighbor’s house and call 9-1-1 or the Sedona Police Department at 928-282-3100.
