I was about the only person in Sedona who tried to stop the injection well out at the waste water plant. None of the so-called environmental groups cared. I sent Council copious amounts of material about it including my own experience with the disastrous wells on Maui (where I used to live and where the county government is now facing huge fines). Former Council member Barbara Litrell was the only one one who "got" the issue and voted against. Given the history of Sedona Council it's hard to say if more public outcry would have changed the outcome. One thing's for sure though; people get what they don't care about.

On man made earthquakes:

Inject Liquid Into the Ground: In 1961, the Army decided that the best way to dispose of toxic waste from napalm production (among other things) was to drill a 12,000-foot-deep well in the Rocky Mountains and inject the bad stuff down it into the crust of the Earth. From 1962 to 1966, the Army deposited 165 million gallons of toxic waste into this hole in the Earth. Unfortunately, the injections probably triggered earthquakes in the region, and the Army shut the operation down. As seismologist Dave Wolny explained, "If you are doing deep well injection, you are altering the stress on the underlying rocks and at some point, the stress will be relieved by generating an earthquake."

Makes sense, so lets do it anyway..........makes me want to hike near delicate limestone deposits and red rocks!!

The U.S. Geological Survey has backed up what scientists are saying: That the disposal of waste water by injection can induce earthquakes.

Only last March the Sedona City Council granted KP Ventures Well Drilling & Pump Co. approval to drill Well No. 2 at the sewer plant. Amount not to exceed $304,160.74. There are around 3 more wells planned for the not too distant future.

BTW, the number of seismic events in Oklahoma now exceeds those in California.

The onslaught of seismic activity in Oklahoma and Texas in recent years has captured the attention of the nation.

State scientists say they have uncovered the root cause of the majority of the state’s earthquakes: the oil and gas industry’s disposal of billions of barrels of water underground.

Now, as the public absorbs this information, Oklahoma’s regulatory bodies are keeping a watchful eye on these disposal wells and planning their next moves.

On Tuesday, the Oklahoma Geological Survey (OGS) issued its most strongly worded statement yet linking the oil and gas industry to the state’s earthquakes.

State geologist Richard D. Andrews and state seismologist Austin Holland say the spike in earthquakes — particularly in central and north-central areas of the state — is “very unlikely to represent a naturally occurring process.”

“The primary suspected source of triggered seismicity is not from hydraulic fracturing but from the injection/disposal of water associated with oil and gas production,” the report from the Oklahoma Geological Survey (OGS) reads.

The seismicity rate in Oklahoma is about 600 times greater than it was before 2008, around the time dewatering started in the state....

We had to close 89A through the canyon once this year!! Chamber of Commerce you better get involved and put a stop to the injection wells. Sedona red rocks tourist attractions go to S**T because of your inaction???!!!???!!

Remember that ballots were sent out March 18 and due back no later than 2 PM on April 18 !!!!!! Did you get yours? Did you mail yours or drop yours off?

Send it back by mail or take it to the VOCA office at 690 Bell Rock Blvd. Ask for a signed receipt?

Go meet the candidates on April 7 from 4 to 6 PM at the VOCA office on Bell Rock Blvd. Make your voice heard !!!!!

I'm not voting for Kautz or Jansen, they lost my vote with the current fiasco and financial chaos. I will vote for 3 new faces !!!! This isn't a kingdom and we don't need kings and queens deciding what our pockets and households do.

Please vote. Thanks.

Irrationality is cognition, thinking, talking or acting without inclusion of rationality. It is more specifically described as an action or opinion given through inadequate use of reason, emotional distress, or cognitive deficiency. The term is used, usually pejoratively, to describe thinking and actions that are, or appear to be, less useful, or more illogical than other more rational alternatives.

Irrational behaviors of individuals include taking offense or becoming angry about a situation that has not yet occurred, expressing emotions exaggeratedly (such as crying hysterically), maintaining unrealistic expectations, engaging in irresponsible conduct such as problem intoxication, disorganization, or extravagance, and falling victim to confidence tricks. People with a mental illness like schizophrenia may exhibit irrational paranoia.

These more contemporary "normative conceptions" of what constitutes a manifestation of irrationality are difficult to demonstrate empirically because it is not clear by whose standards we are to judge the behavior rational or irrational. Irrationality, historically speaking, is an outcome of the ancient Greek separation of rationality from emotion and sensuality as the sources of "false" assumptions and statements.
