The Arizona Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration are planning a bridge-replacement project for the Hell Canyon Bridge on SR 89, approximately 18 miles north of the town of Chino Valley, Arizona.

Construction to replace and remove historic Hell Canyon Bridge is expected to begin in early 2015. A new four-span steel plate girder bridge will be constructed to the east of the existing bridge, which will remain open during the 16-month construction time frame.

Motorists should be prepared for brief delays while traveling through the work zone. The first phase of the project will include constructing the new Hell Canyon Bridge. Temporary access roads will be built along the north and south sides of the canyon to assist with bridge construction and removal.

Once construction of the new bridge is complete, traffic will be switched to the new structure. The existing bridge will be dismantled and removed, which is expected to take two to three months.
