Reply to Disgusted and appalled

Now I've never been the smartest rock in the box but you sure don't have to "dumb-it down" for me or the average American when it comes to Home Rule. It just makes plan sense. In my personal life I was taught to save and only buy what I could afford. Own my house and car and have everything I need and don't owe anyone a penny. Now since the city of Sedona doesn't see it the same way it looks like we residents are going to have to take charge by voting "No" on Home Rule, so they will stop throwing money around like they have it and getting us all into deeper debt.

You all may be happy that Mayor Adams is moving along and hopefully taking his wish list with him but I want to point out another thing. If that Sandy lady becomes mayor your going to see some Big give aways to all his friends and hers, Sedona will be in for some major changes that I don't think none of us want to see. Keep an eye on those fellas running for council this next time and choose the ones that will be responsible to us. And for gods sake get up off your back sides and vote.

@Disgusted and appalled - you are really someone of zero ability to educate yourself with both sides and read to the bottom line and get the facts straight.

So, you show no actual knowledge of reading up on the Home Rule issues!

Simple Math is a pretty easy concept: 2 + 2 = 4. We can all agree on that - right?

Lets move to the next level of simple Math: City revenue in and revenues spent for Health, Safety and Welfare are the basic requirements....right? Lets transfer that concept to your personal finances.... If Home Rule ( which simply states that all your earnings are all you have to spend) is the level of expenditure = Woozier.....unless you, real person, go to the bank and borrow money you are stuck with just your revenue in - right? Or unless you stop charging on your credited cards with a later payback........bottom line is greedy vs conservative and protective of our community.

Since we are surrounded by thousands of acres of USFS lands (typically called Public Lands) that run along both sides of Oak Creek and there are a slew of camping and etc. sites.........could someone (Rob Adams) please explain why the City needs a Creek Walk ?

Yet as a result of this council and all their wants and wishes and bird and splash and creek Parks...we need to pass Home Rule or the "Alternative Spending" issue on our August ballots? BS in a big way!!!!!

And,@Disgusted and appalled, etc. - there is no humor in your posts...just a total lack of understanding of the system....by a person who believes in government paying for Everything by the choices of uneducated and special interest council members!

When you write " DviousMistress?" you displayed a less than respectful stance and just combined yourself with all the other nuts.

If I was your "DviousMistress" - believe me pillow talk would have educated you! and I would just throw up!

@Food for Thought...... Oh YES you really need to become more engaged on a real and educated basis vs your limited basis and contrary to your narrow vision - Your NOT supporting the Alternative Expenditure aka Home Rule makes perfect sense....as you just want every thing paid for you.... there is Zero connection between that and Sedona having property taxes...I call that concept dumber ....the let me just get the dole...before I really have to get a real job...etc.

The post you made certainly indicates you have zero clue as to how the financial system really works (On State and Local basis) and you, too easily, BUY into the scare tactics being spewed, with out accuracy:

FALSE #1) IF home rule fails we Will have local property taxes..........nothing could be further from the truth!!! THERE IS NO CONNECT TO PROPERTY TAXES AND HOME RULE.

TRUE #2) IF HOME RULE FAILS: then the city staff and Council will have to do a knife cut on many budgetary line items that just don't hold up to the smell test of Health Safety and Welfare that council is charged with doing.

Call me crazy but how smart is this city and council to push through the Water Slide Park in a time when we are in the worst drought and other communities are setting limits on water usages? ...when we keep giving money to the chamber and all Missy Jennifer dreams of And she has zero proof of profit or loss.

When HOME RULE FAILS it means our stellar council will have to treat the city budget just like they would their own personal checkbook.............opps - a new concept!

When HOME RULE FAILS or as they now call it "Alternative spending" it means that this crazy ass council and mayor will just have to spend inside their actual budget instead of outside the box and put us in more debt....

Sales tax has Never been an in lieu of Property taxes. get a grip ....who ever you are!

One thing a government worker would never consider is paying off debt or LOWERING taxes, how boring. City and government only thinks how all money we have must be spent, then we can ask for more.

@ Food for Thought -- Wow, what great ideas! Lets get rid of those pesky, old fashioned height restrictions too. Not to worry, I read on the internet that some mega Benz dealership is looking at the Kings Ransom / Elote property for a mega Auto Mall. But don't worry, it will only affect those on Canyon Dr as they may experience some traffic delays getting onto Rt 179.

This is a great project for Sedona, with the added sales tax anticipated from that one dealership, we could work on those traffic delays along Rt 179 by building a light rail system that will be able to travel through the whole city stopping in the area of every group of stores and then head north to the Grand Canyon. If no one likes the light rail idea, in a few years, we'll have enough money to pave Schnebly Hill all the way to Flag. What great ideas.

If we don't have a Home Rule, all of that sales tax money plus the money from those 3.5 million tourists will sit in the coffers until the next vote.

Vote YES on Home Rule!

Seriously? Did I just read that?

.....

"it may be an even better idea to allow big box stores or car dealerships to build in Sedona"

.....

Do you realize where you are @ Food for Thought?

I can't believe that anyone actually thinks that.

Whoever you may be, whatever you may do day in and day out, whatever your ultimatum, I am appalled and disgusted that that actually was written and posted and requested for Sedona's future. My only hope is that you do not work in any position of "power" to persuade or invoke such a deplorable act to occur to the confines of Sedona and therefore mar its natural beauty with that of glowing florescent bulbs and tacky 24-7 "box stores." Who comes to visit Sedona for the "big box stores or car dealerships" available? Already the view of the stars has been diminished by the street lights. Do you desire "smut-peddlers" and "street-walkers" as well?

If you want the "convenience" of what the "big box stores or car dealerships" offer, you should move to Phoenix, Scottsdale, Vegas, L.A. or, take a left, and go to Albuquerque. That sure as (*insert expletive here*) isn't what I moved my family to Sedona for.

San Francisco, which could claim to be a "big-city", doesn't include or allow "big box stores or car dealerships to build." It recognizes and respects what it is, and where its roots are. I hope the same can be said for Sedona.

You should not impose, (or speak for the masses), of those exploitable expectations as a result of extremely avoidable economical shortcomings. If reductions and cutbacks were made to the excessive indulgences that run rampant, the City of Sedona would not require such an inflated budget and therefore would not require such over the top collections for a city of this size and therefore, would not rip-off the year round citizens that call Sedona "home," or the migratory or transient population that passes through.

If the budget wasn't so exorbitant with exclusiveness and excessive spending, a lot could be cut, and reigned in to a more reasonable level for a city of 10,000 residents. Any surplus of spending that tourists supply, would allow for the local businesses to thrive and keep more money circulating throughout Sedona and the surrounding areas, without pinching off the locals.

I guarantee that those that are "just passing through" will, in the future, "pass through" other areas after getting a taste of the over inflated taxes and the "big box stores" that are desired. No one will come back to Sedona after getting a taste of the taxes, and cruddy traffic the first time. Seems to be a really crappy business strategy if the platform is to "screw-'em the first time, who cares if they return."

Maybe I've used too big of words here. Maybe I need to "dumb-it-down" for the "average-American" ....

I'm voting NO on Alternative Expenditure Limitation (oops too big of words again) ...aka... Home Rule.

I only hope there are enough others of equal intelligence to agree along with me.

I'm sorry, have you ever seen me stand on a soap box and tell everyone on SeonaEye that I can do everything better? My days of running for anything more than dog catcher long past. Been there, done that!

It's Tony Marion who thinks that he knows best about how to run everything including his HOA and now it seems that he only likes to run things as long as he doesn't have to follow any state laws or rules.

As for showing facts and proving my points, I DON'T HAVE TO every time Marion steps on his soap box and spews, we all know he's full of do do.

Supporting Home Rule equals NO RULES. I voting NO. I want to see change in Sedona. I would like to see bullet point reasons for voting NO. I will start. Then anyone join in. We can get the public EDUCATED.

* Sedona was better off without "home Rule"
* Sedona debt has gone up. Each citizen debt has increased under home rule
* Money is being diverted to special interest groups and private businesses.
* City Council is only listening to special interest groups and not the citizens.
* They are NOT accounting for the dollars They are using dollars for NON city events and items
* Transparency is not being used, spending is hidden in the current format
* Wastewater rates are the highest in state, sales tax was suppose to help with the cost burden
* Splash Pad was a environmental and financial mistake. Drought, not reusing water, cost to maintain, water usage
* City council just wants to spend every penny they can. It not about Sedona but their personal agendas
* Scare tactics that your roads - maintenance will cease

Supporting Home Rule equals NO RULES. I voting NO. I want to see change in Sedona. I would like to see bullet point reasons for voting NO. I will start. Then anyone join in. We can get the public EDUCATED.

* Sedona was better off without “home Rule”
* Scare tactics that your roads – maintenance will cease

Come on please add on. Let get this list rolling!

Never thought it would happen but I agree with Food for Thought and "big box stores and car dealerships." Isn't that why Cottonwood with a population of only 1,500 more than Sedona has so much more tax revenue?

Let's face it. With the grandiose plans Mayor Adams and this council has for the "wet lands" and the Cultural Park property, none of it as far as I know has anything to do with raising Sedona's tax base except the nonsense that more tourists will come and spend more money. (Ha, more tourists equals more traffic jams.) A really huge shopping mall would mean we residents wouldn't have to waste gas travelling to Cottonwood. Good idea.

As for the threat that if Home Rule isn't approved we will have property tax, HOG WASH and shame for being so desperate to defend your cause. All state imposed restrictions would do is force City Hall to pull in the reins on spending for non-essentials like Splash Pads, land for more parks and related improvements, and thousands of $$$ of give-away tax money to alleged non-profits, including the Chamber of Commerce. Your desperation is showing.
